There’s this weird lot of older former djs on Facebook trying to gatekeep saying stuff like “I used to dj in the 90s, djing’s not what it was, these kids just press buttons.”
Here's some facts for you. The dancefloor didn’t get easier, the crowd got ruthless. Shorter attention spans, more choice, zero patience. DJs now have to be tighter, quicker, and way more versatile just to hold a room for ten minutes.
It’s not that the art got worse, you couldn't manage to keep up.
The talent pool’s deeper, the standards are higher, and the only thing that’s really faded… is your hairline.
And before anyone starts, I was there in the 90s too. Lugging crates, beat matching and riding the pitch.
The only difference is, I didn't stop, and I also have all my hair.
Help the younger lot, support them, give them the knowledge instead of bitterness. This game’s hard enough, late nights, missing parties because you’re working, juggling bookings, money, and real life. You should be backing the next generation, that’s how the scene stays alive.
