Morecambe Sparkle CIC is looking for passionate people to join our Board of Directors and help shape the future of !

🌟 Who We Are: We are the community interest company behind Baylight, Morecambe’s spectacular winter light festival. Our mission is to bring art, light, and community vibrancy to our beautiful seaside town, boosting local pride and tourism during the quieter months.

🤝 What We Need: We are expanding our voluntary board and want to hear from individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds.

💡 Time Commitment: This is a voluntary role designed to fit around your existing commitments. Our board meets for one 90-minute evening meeting per month, alongside occasional email communications.

No prior board experience is necessary, as we value passion, fresh perspectives, and a commitment to Morecambe above all else.

📩 How to Apply: We are recruiting on a rolling basis, so there is no fixed deadline to apply.

We are excited to support the bid for to become UK Town of Culture 2028
UK Town of Culture is a newly launched national initiative, with the first title set to be awarded for 2028. Three towns will be selected, with two runners-up each receiving £250,000, and the winning town receiving £3 million to invest in a year of culture in 2028.
A group of creative and cultural organisations based in Morecambe are working alongside collaborators from sectors including health, environment, education, young people and the third sector to shape the narrative and build a compelling bid.
Morecambe Winter Gardens, More Music and Deco Publique are supporting this work and seeking ideas and input from artists, creatives, businesses and residents from across Morecambe.

Morecambe Sparkle Appoints New Chair

October 2025 – Morecambe, UK
The Board of Directors of Morecambe Sparkle CIC, the organisation behind Morecambe’s acclaimed Baylight Festival, has appointed Callum Henry as its new Chair, effective October 2025.
Callum, who joined the Morecambe Sparkle board in 2022, succeeds Siân Johnson, who led the creation and launch of Baylight. Siân played a pivotal role in securing the festival’s initial funding through Lancashire County Council’s rigorous economic recovery grant process following the Covid-19 pandemic. Under her leadership, the board was formed with a vision to revive Morecambe’s iconic illuminations for the 21st century. Since 2023, she has overseen three highly successful Baylight festivals each February. Siân will remain an active member of the board.

Speaking about his appointment, Callum Henry said:
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Chair of Baylight. It’s a festival I’ve been passionate about since I began working on illumination projects at just 15. While many will be disappointed that Baylight won’t return next year, we’re using the next twelve months to develop an exciting community programme that will keep the sparkle alive until Baylight returns in 2027 — and I promise it will be even more spectacular than before. We’re committed to shining a light on everything that makes Morecambe so special.”

Callum is widely recognised in and for his creative vision to reimagine the town’s illuminations through light art and community engagement. He previously received an Arts Council development grant to deliver Luminate — an innovative project that brought interactive light installations to local spaces. Luminate launched at Morecambe’s Arndale Centre, where children collaborated with local artists to create illuminated, neon-style words inspired by the bay. These were later exhibited along the seafront in 2020, attracting coverage from BBC North West.

Outgoing Chair Siân Johnson commented:
“Congratulations to Callum on becoming the new Chair of Morecambe Sparkle CIC. He brings a wealth of experience in light art and community projects and has been instrumental in the success of our three Baylight festivals. I’m confident he’ll continue to build on the strong foundation we’ve created.”

Morecambe Local Street Market is back — but we need your help!

We’re inviting local traders, makers, and food producers to join us for two special free market days in Morecambe town centre this August!

Join us on Wednesday 13th August and Sunday 17th August, with markets running from Market St, Euston Rd and New Town Square.

These trial markets will feature a fantastic mix of artisan goods, local produce, crafts, and delicious food stalls, plus children’s entertainment, creating a lively, family-friendly atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

📣 FREE WORKSHOP WEEK IS BACK THIS AUTUMN 📣
DigiLab is a free workshop week for anyone (18+)who wants to develop skills in projection mapping, led by imitating the dog, held at Lightworks, the home of Blackpool Illuminations.
📅 Mon 24th – Fri 28th Nov 2025.
Participants will learn about the ITD approach to site-specific projection-mapped installations, from storyboarding through to basic animation and mapping techniques.

Today, thanks to the fantastic help of the guys at White Lund Metals we said farewell to the Great White Whale, as he headed off to his new home at Halton Mill: co-working, studios, & event space !! He sang as he went!
