If Milton Keynes is a little too far for you, don't forget Farnham & District MRC have their exhibition this weekend at Alderwood Leisure Centre in Aldershot where you will find our friends at 3D Railway Prints and Roxley Models.

Have you heard the latest Model Railway Replacement Podcast?

MRRP are hosting the layout challenge.

Portsmouth Railex would like to invite any competiton entrants within the Hampshire area (or within 30 miles of Portsmouth) to attend our exhibition with their layout.

The exhibition takes place on 13th and 14th February 2027 at Horndean Technology College, Hampshire, PO8 9PQ.

The competition - Purchase a 55cm x 55cm Lack table from IKEA for just £10 and build a working model railway layout on top. It's that simple... or is it possible?

Portsmouth Railex will provide a small donation towards fuel costs for each layout on display over the weekend but will be unable to cover any other expenses incurred.

Layouts can attend either Saturday, Sunday or both days. If we have an excess of layouts apply to attend then we may have to restrict the number of layouts due to space constraints.

Only one person may attend as an operator per layout, any other operators will need to be in possession of a valid entry ticket for the exhibition.

Attending layouts must have been part of the MRRP competiton which closes on 24th December 2026 by submitting their entry to MRRP. Any layouts not part of the competiton will not be accepted.

Adult tickets are £10 in advance or £12 on the door. Children under 16 go free with a paying adult. Parking is free at the leisure centre and a free heritage bus will run from Fareham Station.

Advance ticket holders should have their QR code open and ready for FastTrack entry.

On this day 150 years ago - Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station opened

• Opened on October 2, 1876, as the terminus of the Portsmouth Waterside Extension to connect rail passengers directly to ferry services.

• Built directly over the water on timber piles and iron supports between Gunwharf Quays and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

• Rebuilt in 1937 and later reconstructed following bomb damage during World War II.

• Portsmouth Harbour continues to provide vital transport links with direct rail services alongside connections to the Gosport Ferry and Wightlink catamarans to the Isle of Wight.

A quick visit to the Bankside Minature Railway this afternoon to drop off some flyers for Portsmouth Railex.

The BMR is an unusual miniature railway as it is the only 8 1/4" gauge railway in the UK.

Located in the grounds of Brambridge Park Garden Centre just north of Eastleigh.

Well worth a visit for a ride so why not pop along.
