Dr Diane S Speier is a celebrant for NATURAL CEREMONIES:
* Natural Ceremonies designs natural yet spiritual rituals that embrace a multidimensional and personal expression of values and beliefs. Ceremonies are inclusive events that bring people together in harmonious ways, celebrating the person within the community. By creating ceremony in our lives we take notice of important transitions, and transform the quality and course of our lives. Such natural rituals mark those changes in a powerful and positive way.

For many people, the body becomes the place where unprocessed stress settles.

Tension. Fatigue. Overwhelm. Difficulty resting.

And often, we respond by criticizing ourselves for those reactions.

But what if your nervous system isn't failing?
What if it’s trying to protect you the best way it knows how?

Compassion changes healing.

A softer relationship with yourself changes more than you realize.

There's a difference between constantly trying to fix yourself... and learning how to support yourself. Healing isn't always dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like:
• slowing down
• recognizing emotional patterns
• allowing rest
• setting boundaries
• reconnecting to your body
• creating safety internally

The nervous system responds to consistency, not punishment.

What's one thing helping you feel more grounded lately?

Many people wait until burnout becomes unavoidable before they begin listening to their body.

But the nervous system usually communicates long before that point.

Through tension.
Exhaustion.
Overstimulation.
Emotional reactivity.
Difficulty resting.

Learning to recognize those signals with compassion instead of criticism can completely change the way we approach healing.

Save this as a reminder to check in with yourself this week.

The next Mothers Oasis session is happening June 16th!

Motherhood isn’t meant to be done alone 🤍

If you’ve been craving a space where you can show up exactly as you are (messy, tired, joyful, overwhelmed, or all of it at once), this is for you.

Join our Mothers Oasis, a virtual gathering where we come together to share the real parts of motherhood: the triumphs, the trials, the questions, the “is this normal?” moments… and everything in between.

Babies are welcome.
Going "off camera" is welcome.
Your full, honest self is welcome.
This is a space to feel seen, supported, and deeply understood.

Hosted by Dr. Diane Speier: a birth professional, doula, author, and someone who truly gets it.

Come as you are. You don’t have to do this alone. 🤍

Safety doesn't always feel calm at first.
Especially if your system is used to operating in tension.

Sometimes safety feels unfamiliar.
And unfamiliar can feel like discomfort.

That doesn't mean something is wrong.
It means something is new.

Notice what feels unfamiliar—but not unsafe.

This has been true for as long as I've been a birth professional, for nearly 50 years. When my book was published in 2019, I included in the introduction a new ACOG plan to support mothers in the fourth trimester, but this has not happened.

One year after my daughter’s birth, I’m still experiencing health complications.

We often treat slowing down as something that needs to be earned or justified.

But nervous system regulation doesn't work on permission structures.

It works on capacity.

When capacity lowers, slowing down isn't failure—it's adjustment.

Not every emotional state is current.

Some are carryover responses from experiences that didn't fully integrate at the time they occurred.

The nervous system doesn't operate on logic or timeline.

It operates on completion.
