Have you ever talked yourself out of inviting people over because your home didn’t feel “good enough”?

Maybe it felt too small.

Maybe it wasn’t perfectly decorated.

Maybe you’ve spent too much time looking at beautifully styled homes online and convinced yourself that’s what hosting should look like.

The truth is, some of the best gatherings happen around ordinary kitchen tables, in family homes that are lived in and loved.

Your guests aren’t coming to inspect your paint colours, compare your furniture or judge your home.

They’re coming to spend time with you, to celebrate, to catch up and hopefully to laugh and have a jolly good time.

After years of catering in all sorts of homes and venues, one thing stands out every time:

People remember how they felt.

They remember the conversations, the atmosphere and the company.

Not whether everything looked Pinterest-perfect.

So if you’ve been putting off hosting because your home doesn’t look like something from a magazine, consider this your reminder that a warm welcome will always matter more than perfect decor.

Have you ever worried that your home wasn’t “good enough” to host in?

One of the biggest worries people have when they’re hosting is whether everyone will enjoy the food.

You start off planning a simple gathering and before you know it you’re thinking about vegetarians, allergies, fussy eaters, dietary requirements and whether you’ve ordered enough.

I’ve lost count of the number of times clients have said to me:

“I just don’t know what everyone will eat.”

The reality is you’re never going to find one thing that every guest loves.

What people do appreciate is having choice.

Something for the cheese lovers.
Something for the meat lovers.
Something lighter.
Something vegetarian.

When guests can help themselves and build a plate that suits them, everyone relaxes a little more m including the host.

And that’s often what makes an event feel effortless.

Out of curiosity, what’s the biggest challenge you find when organising food for a gathering?

I’d love to know👇🏻

One thing I’ve realised is that many people only see the finished table, not everything that goes into creating it.

From planning and sourcing to preparation, styling and setup, there’s so much happening behind the scenes to make everything feel seamless on the day.

For me, catering has never just been about providing food. It’s about creating an experience that feels relaxed and effortless for the host and their guests.

If you’re planning an event this year and aren’t sure where to start, I’m always happy to guide you 🤍

One of the biggest mistakes I see when catering for vegan guests is separating everything out too much.

A tiny “special” plate in the corner can sometimes end up feeling awkward rather then being part of the experience.

I always try to create vegan options that sit naturally within the table - things like falafel, hummus, fresh crudités, fruit, plant-based cheeses and antipasti-style elements that everyone can enjoy.

When it’s done well, it feels seamless and inclusive rather than divided into “normal food” and “alternative food”.

And honestly, some of the vegan options are usually the first things to disappear.
