Tickets are selling well for Sir Karl Jenkins conducts his “The Armed Man” in Swansea!

Kapitol Festivals is proud to present a special concert at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall on Sunday 19 October 2025, celebrating the 25th anniversary of "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Sir Karl Jenkins, quickly following on from his 80th birthday UK tour in 2024.

Supported by the Nicola Morris Trust, this landmark event features Sir Karl conducting a newly-arranged brass band version of "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace". The acclaimed Aldbourne Band will perform alongside Côr Caerdydd and world-renowned soloists Kathryn Rudge (mezzo soprano), Zands Duggan (hand percussion), and Osama Kiwan (muezzin).

The concert programme also includes Sir Karl’s "Fragile Earth", a recent commission for The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (Director of Music, Dr. Robert Childs from the Welsh College of Music & Drama - Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru), reflecting aspects of global warming.

Since its premiere, "The Armed Man" has been performed over 3,600 times worldwide and continues to resonate deeply with audiences, thanks to its stirring melodies, including the much-loved "Benedictus". The work came second in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame 2025, the highest position ever by a living composer.

We’re really looking forward to putting on “The Armed Man” at Swansea’s Y Brangwyn Hall on Sunday 19 October, and were delighted to be in attendance last weekend at Regent's Park Music Festival to witness the world premiere of this brass band version.

Our Swansea concert will feature many of the amazing musicians on show here - including Kathryn Rudge, Osama Kiwan, Zands Duggan and the Aldbourne Band - along with the fantasic choir Côr Caerdydd, and Sir Karl Jenkins himself conducting!! 🎶

RWCMD Festive Brass 📸
A selection of photos from last Friday’s concert at the wonderful BBC Hoddinott Hall Wales Millennium Centre - Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru), organised by Kapitol Festivals ⬇️

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama - Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru Brass Band (under the direction of Dr. Robert Childs) got everyone into the festive spirit with a variety of Christmas pieces 🎅🏻 🎄

Foot-tapping works such as “Sleigh Ride” were interspersed with emotional items like “O Holy Night”, and the standard of performance was top-class! 🤩

Special mention to “Frosty the Snowman” ⛄️- an incredibly confident and assured solo by the band’s Solo Eb Bass player 🔥

The concert certainly got us all at The Kapitol Group in a festive mood 😄

RWCMD Festive Brass - that was amazing! 🎅🏻

Today’s concert was such a festive occasion, and the near sell-out audience really got into the Christmas spirit! 🌟

Led by the impressive Dr. Robert Childs, the band’s varied musical programme really captured the essence of this time of year, and the players shone - in particular the featured soloists 🤩

What a great day we had organising the Autumn Festival!

Thanks to the following:
▫️Every competing band, who each put on a fantastic performance and really got into the spirit of the event
▫️Adjudicators Steve Pritchard-Jones, Dr Joel Collier and Dr Robert Childs
▫️The Cory Band and Adams Percussion for providing the stage equipment
▫️Tylorstown Band for providing the warm-up room stands
▫️The TCS staff and catering crew, providing tasty treats all day for attendees
▫️Besson Brass for giving adjudicator fee support
▫️Denis Wick Products for providing £120 vouchers for each competing Youth Section
▫️Band supporters and general audience, who created a good atmosphere in the auditorium
▫️ South East Wales Brass Band Association Committee members for their tireless work throughout the day
▫️Perhaps most importantly, members of competing bands who stayed to selflessly volunteer during the event - you were all brilliant!

All of the above personnel helped us pull the whole event together in a streamlined and efficient manner, it was a true team effort (as these kind of events often are).

Autumn Festival 2024 preparations nearly complete… just percussion load-in and last-minute jobs tomorrow morning from 08:00.

The weather forecast looks wonderful tomorrow 👀 ☔️ 💨 but we can offer a warm welcome, hot tea/coffee and a great way to spend a few rainy hours - so come along and spend your day with us! 🎺 🤩

The action kicks off at 10:30, with 17 entertaining performances meaning there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy 🎭 🎶 🎥 🪐 💰 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🐉 🧙 🎷 ⛪️ 🇮🇪 🦁 🌊 🌙 ❤️ 🎸 🦊 🦅 🔥 🌎 🕺🏻
