Someone once said if you really want to see certain bands play together book the gig yourself. When I was about to turn 30 I thought it would be fun to put on 3 bands which make me laugh. So I asked The Wheatsheaf if I could put on a gig. I then asked We Are Goose, Beaver Fuel, and The Crushing. Thankfully all 3 said yes and my 30th Birthday went quite well. As my 30th went well I decided to book
another gig for my 31st this time with a different 3 bands I had enjoyed listening to. So I asked Gemma Moss, Headcount and Peerless Pirates. Lots of people (including people I didn't even know) came along. So third times the charm My 32nd Birthday which also became 2 other celebrations. I had quite a mix of different bands: Headington Hillbillies, Osprey and Co, Barry and The Beachcombers (which also became a farewell gig before Magic Booker moved to Australia. Their set was recorded and released on Bandcamp), and an album launch for Space Heroes of The People. After having organised 3 gigs I decided I liked being an occasional promoter and so went on booking one or two gigs a year, with a different line up every gig to keep things fresh. Then in 2019 things took a slight change. I finally got around to setting up a page. Just before The Cellar closed down I put on an evening of punk with Richie Stix and The Brain People, Grub, and Beaver Fuel. I don't normally care about people's day jobs however on this occasion I was happy to know members of Grub, and Beaver Fuel were either working at/previously working at Blackwells Music and so a lot of the staff past and present came to the gig. I then began to book touring bands with local support acts with the hope of some people turning up to see bands they knew and sticking around to see bands they didn't know. I also setup a Patreon I figured as people happily invest in Membership Deals for Cinemas and Gyms, why not try and start something for gigs to help pay for hiring venues etc.
