Love always finds its way... even if it has to wait six years.
Back in 2020, Moyra & Stephen had everything planned for their wedding day, but like so many couples, COVID had other ideas. Fast forward to 18th July 2026, and after six years of waiting, they finally got the day they'd dreamed of—and what an unforgettable day it was!
Their wedding was a beautiful reflection of who they are, with their shared love of the outdoors and life on the water woven into every part of the celebration. Paddle boarding, canoeing and their beautiful narrowboat, moored along the River Thames, have always been a huge part of their story, so it was only fitting that the day began with Stephen getting ready aboard the narrowboat before setting off to The Cosener's House, Abingdon by canoe with his son.
Nestled on the banks of the River Thames, The Cosener's House provides a stunning riverside setting, with beautiful gardens and views that make it one of Oxfordshire's most picturesque wedding venues.
Standing on the riverbank with St Helen's Church creating the perfect backdrop, I spotted the canoe appearing around the bend. It was such a unique and memorable way to arrive for your wedding—and made for some incredible photographs.
The morning then continued with Moyra and her bridal party as everyone prepared for the ceremony. Once Moyra stepped into her absolutely stunning wedding dress, she made quite the entrance, arriving back at the venue in a beautiful black Ferrari that certainly turned a few heads around Abingdon!
Then came one of the most heartfelt ceremonies I've had the privilege to witness. Led by the wonderful celebrant Fiona Mac Celebrant, Moyra & Stephen quite literally tied the knot during a symbolic handfasting ceremony using a vibrant multicoloured rope.Each colour represented something meaningful, and together with Jack, Rue and Will, each knot symbolised not only the joining of two people but the coming together of a family.
As the evening sun began to cast its golden light across the Thames, the newlyweds climbed back into the canoe for a peaceful paddle along the river... followed, rather amusingly, by a family of rubber ducks! Moments like these are what make every wedding so wonderfully unique.
Guests were kept entertained throughout the afternoon with garden games including Hook the Duck, Giant Jenga and Space Hoppers, while two incredibly tall ladies on stilts wandered the gardens bringing smiles and laughter wherever they went.
As darkness fell, it was time to swap canoes for dancing shoes! The dance floor soon filled as Oxford Discos - Weddings, Events & Celebrations kept everyone partying well into the night with some fantastic tunes.After such a long wait, Moyra & Stephen finally had the wedding day they truly deserved—filled with love, laughter, family and so many personal touches that made it uniquely theirs.
