Ninfield Carnival and Sports Association are pleased to announce that, following a unanimous vote, Donna Powell has taken on the role of Chair of the committee.

We would like to thank Sami Hughes-Guard for the time, energy and dedication she has given to Carnival over the past 20 years. Her commitment has played a huge part in keeping Carnival going and supporting community events in the village, and we are very grateful for everything she has contributed.

As we now begin a new and exciting chapter, we wanted to share a little bit about Donna.

Donna has lived in Ninfield for just over four years and absolutely loves the village and our incredible association. She has three children and is passionate about bringing family-orientated events to the village and encouraging the whole community to get involved.

Donna has some exciting ideas, but in order to make them a reality, she will need helpers. If you can spare a few hours a year, plus a few more on event days, we’d love to hear from you.

Ninfield Carnival - Event Updates

We recently held our Extraordinary Meeting and I proposed as Interim Chair that we cancel our June carnival weekend event as we would be clashing with the Battle Bonfire Boyes family event on the same day. This was voted on and was agreed unanimously.

We have also cancelled the Race Night we were going to hold in May.

Later this year we are going to hold a meet the committee/recruitment drive - more details will follow. The more helpers/volunteers we have the bigger the events are that we can bring you.

Speaking for me personally I want to understand what villagers want from their Carnival Association, so watch out for news on this. I absolutely want to bring events which are family oriented for all ages - tots to teenagers.

We will be solely hosting Michelmas this year so hopefully this will give you an idea of what this new Carnival Committee wants to do, save the date - Saturday 26th September.

Our next meeting is Monday 20th April, 730pm, top floor of the Memorial Hall - all welcome. We need to select and vote in our next Chair. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone please do come to the meeting.

Best wishes

Donna Powell

Extraordinary Meeting - Sunday 22nd March - 230pm - Sparkes Pavilion

Ninfield Carnival is at an exciting turning point. Following the decision of co-chair Sami to step down we are holding an extraordinary meeting.

If you want a carnival for your village then please come forward and get involved. Let us know what you want. Carnival in Ninfield is a wonderful tradition and we want to keep it going but we need your help to do this.

Come along, hear our plans for the future (no, we’re not merging with bonfire) and help us shape future events. All welcome. Any questions please message, email or call.

Important update - 05/03/2026

We held a meeting on Monday evening and during that meeting, Sami Hughes-Guard, co-Chair, made the decision to step down with immediate effect.

First of all I want to say thank you to Sami (and Robin) for the many years they have selflessly dedicated to Carnival and the incredible amounts of money they have helped raise for charity. We hope that they will still want to be part of our carnival scene going forwards.

At the same meeting Kaye Crittell, Treasurer and Catriona Smith, Secretary also made the decision to step down at the next AGM. Again, I want to thank them both for all their hard work and support of our carnival association over the years.

In the interim I will be stepping up as Chair and have asked that we hold an Extraordinary meeting to discuss the plan going forwards. This plan will include not only securing a committee for the future of our amazing carnival association but also organising events that we know the village loves (and we love bringing to you).

It's now time for people to come and support the Carnival Committee; if you can attend the meeting or take on a position/shadow those who will be standing down, we'd love to see you, or contact us at [email protected].

Ninfield Carnival and Sports Association is 90 years old and I want to future proof the Association for the next 90 years.

Once we have a date for the extraordinary meeting we will update you all. This meeting will be open to anyone. If you would like to get involved with carnival in anyway then please do come along.
