The Fews Ensemble are thrilled to announce their first concert as ensemble in residence at Carlingford Heritage Centre. Join them for a perfect midsummer afternoon of music in the beautiful surroundings of this unique venue — Elgar’s richly romantic Piano Quintet paired with Vaughan Williams’ hauntingly beautiful On Wenlock Edge, settings of A.E. Housman’s beloved poems. A fittingly evocative opening to their four-concert series drawing on memory, faith and imagination. As Ensemble in Residence at Carlingford Heritage Centre, The Fews Ensemble presents Echoes and Inspirations — a four concert journey through music that draws on memory, faith, and imagination. Spanning the English pastoral tradition, the spiritual visions of Messiaen, the lush romanticism of Brahms and Schoenberg, and a new commission by Newry composer Amy Rooney, this series explores how composers transform experience and art into sound.

The season concludes with a programme examining the deep and reciprocal relationship between music and literature — from Beethoven’s stormy Kreutzer Sonata, which inspired Tolstoy’s novella of the same name, to musical works shaped by Shakespeare’s enduring influence. Each concert offers a moment of reflection and wonder within the historic setting of Carlingford Heritage Centre.

The fabulous Arco Quartet are visiting us this Friday night at our hub at The Quays, Newry for our second Quayside sessions concert. Check them out here in this little video from a sold out concert at St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast.

Ok, so our hub is not St Anne's Cathedral but it will still have hundreds of candles, will be full of atmosphere, you'll be so close to the musicians and it will be way more intimate!

All set for a beautiful evening of music at The Quays, Newry. Renowned Mezzo Soprano Carolyn Dobbin delivers a masterclass on Folk Song to 6 local young singers from 4pm ahead of her recital this evening.
The masterclass is open to the public and free to attend.
