Update 21st August.

Thank you for your patience whilst I have been trying to arrange a way forward for PGE. I appreciate that not knowing has been frustrating but I needed to find a way to ensure that PGE continued in line with our goals & vision and also that your entry was honoured.

The last few weeks has been a tough period and one I never wished to have to go through, but the time it has taken to find the best way forward was needed in order to achieve the best possible outcome for yourselves.

With that in mind I can announce that we are very pleased to say that we have come to an agreement with a third party and the intent is to officially hand over the reins next week and allow the company to move forward with the PGE tribe in the direction we always envisaged. We will email you further next week with details regarding that.

With regards to entries and events, we are currently finalising the details and all entrants have been emailed this afternoon.

Back in 2019 when I still had blonde highlights a side parting and a quiff, after working in the industry for 20 years I decided to put on the very first Purple Gecko Events Trail run. It was a sell-out Twilight Run at Cardinham Woods, I don’t think I got a wink of sleep the night before, it turned out to be a great success and the start of an incredible journey.

Since that cold winters night some seven years ago PGE has blossomed and developed into a beautiful community that is full of the most amazing people. Whether the personal chosen task to be completed was been a 2.5k fun run or a 100 (plus) Mile Ultra Marathon, everyone has participated for their own specific reasons pertinent to themselves, but all had one thing in common, the compassion and willingness to support one another in the challenge ahead. This is something that has filled me with pride, and in a world where it would seem that so few seem to care so little about anyone or anything, it has been a constant reminder that I need not lose faith in humanity just yet.

Unfortunately however, it is now apparent that in order for PGE to be able to move forward, it needs to be in a different direction, with a new Captain at the helm, as I am no longer in a position to be able to do so. This decision fills me full of great sadness, it is a decision I sincerely regret having to make, but I now have no choice. I am working hard to find a possible solution and I keep doing so for another 14 days. All participants currently signed up for a race will be emailed over the next 24hours, and I will keep you updated on a changes or decisions that will be made.

I hope that, as someone once said, ‘It is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps, the end of the beginning’

With the Stifling Saharan Sunset half & Long 10k rapidly become a distant sticky memory it was time to turn our attention to its nearby cousin thrice removed, the Harlyn Half & Long 10k. Billed as an enticing entry level introduction to coast path trail running along with the exciting prospect of getting lost along the banks of the Camel Estuary, this little bundle of sweaty delights has it all. The Harlyn experience also includes our renowned complimentary wildlife showcase, getting up close & personal with formidably sized bovines, rampaging flocks of winged assassins & notoriously shy sea badgers.

Customers who signed up for the platinum package benefited from intermittent foot massages and piggy backs from burly firemen, with iced fruits & complimentary jugs of Woo Woo at the finish. Harlyn is also home to our exclusive surprise finish, with Long 10k contenders having to navigate their way back to Padstow on a very limited budget in a Race across the world style.

It may have begun to cool down a tad but yesterday was still hot by anyone’s standard. Thank you to everyone who came out to support Padstow Rowing Club and stood on the start line yesterday, Legends all.
