🎶 Could you spare a few hours a month to help Carrick Concerts?

Carrick Concerts brings world-class classical music to Mylor and Flushing, and we’re looking for a volunteer to help us spread the word about our concerts.

We’re looking for someone who could spare a few hours each month to help with writing event listings and creating social media posts to promote our concerts and the wonderful musicians who perform for us.

You don’t need to be a classical music expert – just someone who enjoys writing, has an eye for a good story and would like to support a local arts organisation.

It’s a flexible role, and even a little time each month would make a real difference in helping us reach more people and share the joy of live classical music.

Could this be you? Or perhaps you know someone who might be interested?

Please send us a message or get in touch if you’d like to find out more. We’d love to hear from you! 🎻

🎼 Join us for a very special evening of live music with Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, one of Britain’s most distinctive harpists.

🎼 Did you know Elizabeth-Jane is the only silent-film harpist in the world? She performs live accompaniment to screenings of early cinema, bringing these films to life with the harp.

Her career has taken her from historic houses and arts cruises to sold-out performances in the USA, Italy and France. Her compositions have been used by the BBC, ITV and broadcasters around the world, and her fascination with Victorian Fairy Harp Music has led to recordings, television appearances and even a West End show with actor Simon Callow.

Come and experience the rich, distinctive sound of the harp in the beautiful setting of All Saints Church, Mylor Bridge.

🎼 On this day in classical music – 25 September

Today marks the birthday of one of the great composers of the 20th century: Dmitri Shostakovich, born in St Petersburg in 1906.

Shostakovich wrote 15 symphonies, 15 string quartets and some extraordinary concertos and film scores – music that could be powerful, dramatic, playful and deeply moving.

And there is a lovely coincidence in today's date. On his 60th birthday in 1966, Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 2 received its premiere, performed by the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.

A birthday concert with a world premiere – not a bad way to celebrate 60! 🎶

What piece of Shostakovich's music would you choose to listen to today?

🎻 A GLORIOUS EVENING OF CHAMBER MUSIC AT ENYS HOUSE

What a wonderful way to launch the new Carrick Concerts season.

Our Chair, Julian Thould, has written a lovely review of our recent concert with the Alegría Trio, describing the combination of the historic surroundings of Enys Gardens and House, an enthusiastic audience and three exceptional musicians as creating an atmosphere that was "both intimate and memorable."

The evening took us from the wit and elegance of Haydn, through the lyrical and expressive music of Joel Mandelbaum, to the emotional richness of Brahms.

Julian particularly highlights the exhilarating Hungarian gypsy-influenced finale of Haydn's Piano Trio No. 39, the fascinating connection between the musicians and Mandelbaum — one of their former teachers at Queen's College in New York — and a magnificent performance of Brahms's Piano Trio No. 1.

"The Alegría Trio played with great technical skill, command of the repertoire, and much sheer joy in making wonderful music together."

And what a setting for it. 🌿🎻

Thank you, Julian, for capturing the evening so beautifully.

🎻 A wonderful evening at Enys House

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Alegría Ensemble — Chloe Dickens Violin , Sara Juneau and Ricky Moreira — for a simply wonderful Carrick Concert at Enys Gardens on Saturday evening.

It was a beautiful evening of music, made even more special by such a warm and appreciative audience, who paid tribute to the musicians with several rousing rounds of applause. 👏🎶

We are particularly grateful to the support of our patrons, whose generosity helps make Carrick Concerts possible, and to all our wonderful helpers — from running the bar and serving the food, to selling raffle tickets and, of course, moving the piano! 🎹

And a special thank you to Enys House and Gardens for allowing us to share this beautiful setting with our audience.

📸 We'll be sharing more photographs throughout the week, taken by our lovely Dianne, along with a post-concert review.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped make it such a memorable evening. ❤️🎻
