When they lost one of their best friends far too soon, the lads knew they needed to create space to celebrate all that Rossco was.
To honour him and also the grief of his loss.
To celebrate the positive impact he had on all that knew him and the legacy he has left in the world.
Rossco showed us that kindness matters. Fun is essential. And supporting the team means more than individual gain.
He was so deeply loved and will forever be remembered. For his hardy laugh, antics on and off the pitch, generosity of character, loyalty and for being the kind of person that you would always feel so grateful to have been lucky enough to know.
Seeing a group of lads organise a memorial football match, develop a celebration of life with personal tributes, photos, music, food, guest book, football shirt signing, sponsored triathlons to raise money for SAMH in his memory….well, I can tell you, it was POWERFUL.
This group of men, helped ALL of Rossco’s friends grieve and say goodbye. They reduced stigma. They showed that men have mental health and emotions to honour. That it’s ok to cry, to show feelings, to seek and accept help when struggling. That we can ALL struggle.
Thank you for letting me have the privilege of becoming one of the gang as we said goodbye. You did him proud x
