The reality & truth of owning and managing a business.

Running a business is really hard.

What outsiders other than close family don't see, is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

People expect you to be available 24/7 and at the drop of a hat because “you work for yourself so you can make time” unfortunately this is not the case most of the time.

People will value you and your hard work but still expect a close to the bone deal, much lesser than a big business.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back in reasonable time, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails at the drop of a hat.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner., and the boss.... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... It’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small LOCAL businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around & keep providing, and employing local people, keeping then in work to support their family.

Festival & Events season coming up for 2022 which means we are seeking to expand our team for events and festivals local & National.

This means every National festival could easy be 6 or 7 days of enjoyable work & more than likely going from event to event.

You must be self-sufficient and prepared for overnight stays (tent, sleeping bag, enough clothing etc for the duration).

Was a very tough call following on from a very very busy & demanding January 2022 but the characteristics of our work force shone through. One officer couldn't be chosen easily so it was eventually narrowed down to two that during the month went above and beyond with dedication, adaptability, flexibility, dependability & understanding when the client demand was side by side with the top of Everest....
I can vouch for all our lovely security officers being assets to the company ensuring the cogs keep turning in the right direction at the same speed so as thanks & appreciation from myself & office team I would like to congratulate & offer our thanks to both Lynn Brooks & Emily Foster. Both are credits to the company & work force.

Well done ladies. I couldn't get my hands on a holiday voucher so hope you use your Amazon voucher wisely....

AJ-Security is requiring SIA Badge holders for overnight work in various locations in West Cumbria, this would be ideal way of topping up your wage packet, or getting back into work.

All must hold an in date SIA licence for the position(s) interested in.
If you do not possess an SIA licence then contact us to find out when our next available course is.

Driving licence and use of a vehicle to get to and from locations would be an advantage but not necessary as most locations are on a bus/train route.

One thing this pandemic has brought forward is the arrival of small 'ten Bob' security companies/outfits setting up. These companies maybe do things cheaper but as a requirement them being fully insured, registered with HMRC, and relevant accreditions awarded for service provided are reassurance that all is how it should be for the client.

There's a good few security providers with recognition, experience & all the boxes ticked.
And there's a few with not many boxes ticked, little experience and limited recognition.

If you've a location, property or venue requiring provision of security in Cumbria then by all means give us a shout, but if you have another company in mind, ensure they're reputable & above all else, insured & registered...

Pay cheap, pay twice, so pay for reassurance instead.

I'm sure I'm on the same page as many security companies through United Kingdom and I know a fair few local & a far that tick all the boxes.

Last Saturday night (27 November), our investigators conducted enforcement operations with West Mercia Police in Telford, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

These were targeted operations to identify and disrupt the activities of unlicensed security operatives, who place the public at risk by working illegally.

They spoke with venue managers, examined documentation, and interviewed and checked the licences of security operatives on duty that night. Our investigators also inspected a business's premises and conducted enquiries at a residential address.

The operation, supported by officers from the West Mercia Police also sought to gather intelligence on fraudulent activity such as bogus security companies, individuals operating without a licence, and signs of labour exploitation and modern-day slavery.

At the end of the operation, our officials identified seven offences under the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA) and potential offences under the Fraud Act.

• Four individuals were found to be working without a licence
• One security company was found to be supplying unlicensed operatives
• Two individuals were found to be breaking the conditions of their licence.
