Starting with zero contacts feels like the thing holding you back. It’s not.

When you don’t have an inherited network, you can’t coast.

You have to actually think about who you want to know and why.

That builds something most people don’t have- the ability to make a connection from nothing.

The people who grew up with contacts often can’t do that- they’ve never had to.

Your network isn’t smaller because you started with nothing. Every person in it chose to be there because of you. Not because of who you knew before them.

That’s not the long road to the same place- that’s a different kind of head start.

Nobody teaches you how to actually talk to people at networking events.

So everyone usually just stands there with a drink, waiting for it to feel natural (NOT at ours though👀)

It doesn’t have to be that hard.

Three questions. That’s all you need:
- “What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on?”
- “How did you get into that?”
- “What does winning look like for you this year?”

Ask those in order and the conversation runs itself.

Because people don’t remember what you said, they remember how you made them feel.
