It’s our birthday week!!! Did you know that Girl Gang is run by 2 best friends of 26 years, Megan & Ellie?!
We met in Y6 at Grindleford Primary School, were in all the same forms, took all the same subjects, went to secondary, sixth form AND university together? We even went out with best friends and then brothers 😅
So lucky to be sisters in life and creativity 💖

Girl Gang has always been a labour of love! Though we’ve had lots of lovely commissions from local arts organisations and a ACE project grant or 2 (literally, lol!) we’ve never been paid to run the company.
We’re currently presenting our entire Season of the Witch without ANY funding. We also turned 10 earlier this year!

We’ve set up our “£10 for 10” Fundraiser to help us celebrate our birthday how we know best- by making great work! Throwing just £10 in the pot will help us cover some of the costs like venue hire, materials etc, or if you donate more you can get some fab merch like the scarves shown here, our manifesto or pre order of our zine!

So looking forward to Craft & Coven Session 3 this Wednesday Oct 14th 6pm-8pm Cloudwater Brewery Taproom

We’ve be using India Rakusen excellent podcast series WITCH to undertake a wholistic exploration of witches and witch craft; their history, legacy and current iterations, looking at 3 episodes per gathering and focusing on a different bit of practical making for our Halloween event at the end of October.

This week we will discuss episodes 7-9; Into the Woods, Hag and To Be Called A Witch & make Autumn garlands!

Episode 7: INTO THE WOODS: Why and how The Witch is such a key figure in our folklore and fairy tales. Come with us, as we take a journey deep into the woods to hear stories of the witch.

Episode 8: HAG: What made older women a key target during the witch hunts in many places in Europe. India wants to find out why that was, and how this has subsequently shaped life for older women several hundred years later. We meet modern witches who show us how covens help to break down ageism.

Episode 9: TO BE CALLED A WITCH It’s one thing to choose to be a witch - it’s quite another to be accused. India explores historical and modern witch hunts and the impact of being accused of witchcraft

These are casual, discussion based community sessions with some light crafting and wholesome feminist cosy creative community vibes. We reccomend listening to the episodes before hand, but this is not essential, just come with curiosity and an eagerness to connect, contribute, listen and learn. Each session stands alone, so you’re welcome to come for as many or as few as you fancy!

Spell Writing, Collage and Spell Book Decorating Workshop ✍️ 📕 ✨
Join our resident poet for a drop in “found poetry” style spell writing and collage workshop - where you can make magic with your words or create a beautiful space to store your deepest desire and manifestations.
Free spell books for the first 30 through the door, otherwise bring your own to decorate!

Herbs & Potions - Tea Blending workshop 🫖☕ 🍃
Through this workshop we’ll be exploring how the food science and culinary art of tea blending crosses into “witchcraft” or folk magic, following traditions and rituals from:

* Herbal Correspondences
* Mindful Preparation
* Divination
* & Green Witchcraft
To create your own blend of tea to take away with you!

The B*tches of Eastwick 🧙‍♀️🕯️🐍
(Limited capacity 30 min performances)
Journey through the stairwells, corridors, nooks and crannies of Islington Mill with The Bi***es of Eastwick. Here to abstract and resurrect your favourite movie moments and bring your into the heart of the action with oodles of teen angst, spookiness and high camp. And yes, in fact, they are the weirdo’s Mister!

Three performances will take place on the night inc an accessible performance, come early to sign up for a place on the night!

We’re thrilled to have Biana from Rising Tarot | MCR with us to provide mini readings across the evening!
Querents can bring a specific question or theme to the reader and leave enlightened.

Despite the warmth of the last couple of days, who else l can feel autumn’s presence? 🍁 🍂
The turning of the leaves, the drawing in of the nights already and the need for hangouts to be cosy?!
On our reflections of the Witch podcast in our craft and coven session we’ve been talking a bit about what it is to live in tune with nature. How we can embrace and embody the inexplicable link between us and the earth, to use darker months for growth in a different way. ✨
In the next few months there are still plenty of opportunities to join us for our season of the witch and be a part of these types of conversations as well as the chance to try new crafts, meet new friends, have a dance, take action, for personal exploration and for fun! We’d love to have you as part of our gang! 💖

Support our 10-4-10 fundraising campaign and grab yourself one of our gorgeously redesign Manifestos!

Girl Gang Manchester turned ten in January 2026 and we’ve been reflecting a LOT on the resilience required in this ever-evolving and progressively more expensive city, looking back over our FIVE HUNDRED EVENTS and projects, reviving some old classics and collectively calling in a promising future for us all.

The reality is however, that we haven’t had a successful funding bid since 2023. We don’t receive any core funding to support our organising or activity. So far this year we have only received one micro commission of £1000. We want to make more work! For you! For us!
..So we launched an entire season of activity for this Autumn, Season of the Witch and have been really bowled over by the support and love you’ve been showing it! Thank you!

To help support this exciting season of activity and keep prices of our events affordable (we offer tiered ticketing for almost all events) we’ve decided to launch our own funding campaign, 10-4-10 , that’s £10 for 10 years, or £1 for ever year we have been running!

We know money is tight for many people at the moment and appreciate people buying tickets to the events (again thank you for continuining to support us and particularly for buying tickets early, this is a massive help) but if you or anyone you know has any spare cash to throw our way we would be so grateful of any/all support ❤️ All money goes to supporting artists and creatives being paid to run exciting, community events.

Craft & Coven Session #2: Bury the Hatchett!
We will discuss WITCH episodes 4-6; Enchanted Lands, The Magic(k) and Midwives & Healers.
We will be making tombstones to lay to rest all that we want buried!

Gorgeous evening at the first Craft & Coven last night! Learned so many new things, thanks so much to everyone who came and contributed their knowledge and curiosity! Season of the Witch is for anyone - the witch curious as well as the seasoned witch!
We are back at Cloudwater next Tuesday too for our second session where we’ll be discussing India Rakusen WITCH episodes 3-6 Enchanted Lands, The Magic(k) and Midwives & Healers and making tombstones for The Craft! 🪦
