The London-born Leicester-bred son of Barbadian parents who came to Britain in the 1950s, actor, writer, poet and storyteller Victor Richards has been perfectly positioned throughout his life to observe and commentate on the trials and tribulations, joys and sorrows of British West Indian culture for nearly seven decades.

Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold is a powerful new film honouring the Windrush generation and the Caribbean migration experience in Britain.
Adapted from Victor Richards’ acclaimed one-man play, this 60-minute cinematic journey follows Augustus Cleveland Johnson from his 1948 arrival in England through decades of resilience, family, culture, and identity. Blending voiceover, vivid recreations, and historical archives, the film immerses viewers in a heartfelt tribute to a generation that helped shape modern Britain.
Filmed across Leicester and the Midlands, it’s a moving, sensory celebration of Caribbean-British heritage.

Today NHS announced the beginning of a new scheme to try and beat cervical cancer with Home Testing Kits.
In England, 1 in 3 (31.2%) women and people with a cervix eligible for screening were unscreened in 2023-2024. So currently its around 4 million women in England are not up to date with their routine check-up
There are many reasons why some people may not attend. This new self-testing option for HPV primary screening provides an opportunity to help address some of those key barriers.
This is by invitation only !!
It will not replace routine cervical screening. !!
Cervical Screening is still best option for catching changes in cervix.

To explain why this is soooooo important
There are two main types of cervical cancer. The most common is squamous cell carcinoma. 8-9 in every 10 people with cervical cancer will have this type. The next common is adenocarcinoma.
Nearly all squamous cervical cancers are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a very common virus. 8 in 10 of us will come into contact with it in our lives. HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin sexual contact. Most of the time our bodies will clear the virus and it won’t cause any issues. Rarely, HPV lingers and develops into cell changes or cancer.
This is why there is now a vaccine in children/young adults for HVP
