We're celebrating International Orchid Day with some photos of this beautiful bride who wanted bouquets of purple orchids for herself and her maids.πŸ’œ

I used phalaenopsis also known as moth orchids, for Carmella's bouquet and purple Dendrobium, also known as Singapore orchids, for her bridesmaids with matching phalaenopsis buttonholes for the groom and groomsmen.πŸ’œ

This beautiful wedding took place back in July on one of the hottest days of the year so I was grateful to be working with these beautiful flowers that could withstand the heat. πŸ’œ

Many cultures far and wide treasure orchids for their beauty and symmetry and the flower has come to symbolise love and happiness. πŸ’œ

There's lots more to show you from this wedding but for now we wish Carmella and James so much love and happiness for their future together and thank them for sharing these gorgeous photos with us πŸ’œ

Shout out for all the bridesmaids and flower girls supporting their brides this weekend.🌸

Apparently the role of a bridesmaid was originally to protect the bride from unworthy suitors and to ward off evil spirits! 🌸

Today, helping the bride choose her dress and making sure the prosecco doesn't run out at the hen night are more likely duties πŸ˜‰πŸŒΈ

Inspired by this year's Chelsea Flower Show where every designer garden seemed to feature foxgloves (digitalis). I love them so it wasn't difficult to choose them for this specially commissioned arrangement. 🩷

I love to create designs inspired by nature. It seems like a no-brainer when you work with flowers to try to replicate how they would look in their natural habitat. I know a Chelsea show garden isn't exactly natural - every detail is engineered to seem natural - but the inspiration is the same and I too had a bit of engineering to do in order to achieve the look I wanted here.
No gold medals for me though just a very appreciative customer which is just as good - if not better! 🩷

Have a lovely day, Kay 🌸

Hello. Thank you for following me. It's a busy time of year and I realize that I've been posting less often than I used to but it can be difficult to keep up with all of the things that we small business owners have to do away from what we actually want to do which in my case is creating beautiful floral arrangements for weddings and events.🌸

I did find time though for a mini shoot with my friend and colleague Tricia at Portrayed Photography a few weeks back. We had a lovely afternoon photographing flowers and a few shots of me at work in my garden studio. 🌸

The studio is just a short walk across the lawn that my husband has proudly grown from seed and past the new herbaceous border that I'm trying to create.🌸 It has power, light and heating, is sheltered under the branches of a large tree which keeps it nice and cool in the summer and squirrels run across the roof which used to make me jump but I've got used to them now 🐿️

Someone recently said it looks idyllic but there's still plenty to do. I have to make a proper path across the grass so that when it rains in winter I don't slip and slide about like I did last year! I need a lot more shelves inside and I want to tile the wooden floor, the list goes onπŸ˜…

I've just finished a lovely wedding for Carmella and James at Dulwich College - photos coming soon - and I'm looking forward to being back at the wonderful Beckenham Place Mansion in a few weeks for Evie and Gareth. 🌸

I'm taking bookings now for next year and I have a few dates available for later this year. I'm a recommended supplier for Beckenham Place Mansion but I'm happy to work anywhere in London as well as most parts of Kent and Essex.

If you are planning a wedding or event and would like to know more about working with me please get in touch. All of my contact details are in my bio. It would be lovely to hear from you.🌸

Happy first anniversary to the super special Alana and Tom!!
It was an absolute pleasure to work with this lovely Beckenham couple who held their reception at the wonderful Beckenham Place Mansion a year ago today.🩷

I have bumped into Alana and Tom a couple of times since their wedding and I'm always greeted with big hugs and smiles which absolutely makes my day! I hope you are both having the most fantastic time.🩷

I am sometimes asked if I do funeral flowers and the answer is yes I do. Weddings are my main occupation but I will always do other events if I am able to. So please do get in touch if you need farewell tributes. I'd be very happy to help. [email protected]

I don't usually show you images of the smaller items that I have to make for weddings. There's not always time to take photos and when I'm working my way through the list of jobs buttonholes are often left until last. This is partly because they're not my favorite thing to make. They are tricky, fiddly delicate little things and to do them well is a real skill. You have to work very carefully to achieve the end result and whilst I know that some florists can make them quickly, I can't. They always take me ages! 🌸

To make them 'properly' means wiring each flower head to create a new 'stem' with the wire which then allows the heads to be manipulated and positioned precisely where you want them. I usually do this but yesterday I was running short of time and decided against wiring, choosing instead to bind the natural stems together with wax tape and even though it gave me less flexibility with the flower heads I was pleased with the end result. 🌸

These particular buttonholes were for the lovely Gemma, who was a regular customer at my shop and kindly chose me to create her wedding flowers.🌸

Of course some buttonholes or boutonnieres are more complex than others, a single flower is going to be much easier than something like these where I used four different flowers for each one including the bride's favourite ranunculus.🌸

In the end I finished them with enough time to take some photos so here they are! 🌸

Congratulations to Gemma and Gary. I hope you had a wonderful wedding day.πŸ₯‚πŸŒΈ

Hello! I've never had a selfie with my newlywed clients before but maybe I should start a trend πŸ€”πŸ’š

This is me with the very lovely Freya and Sinan on their wedding day last Saturday at Beckenham Place Mansion. They hired me quite late on in their wedding preparations to be their wedding florist and chose to dress key areas of the venue with lush green plants instead of flowers.πŸ’š

It was difficult for me to get good photos as some of the rooms are very dark and you know I'm not a good photographer but trust me it looked splendid.πŸ’š

Freya and Sinan wanted mostly ferns and palms which I used to line the entrance hall and decorate the atrium as well as fill the Georgian alcove in the Old Library where the couple married.πŸ’š

I have done similar weddings using mostly houseplants but I'd love to do one with all garden plants so please get in touch if you like that idea and would like me to help you achieve that. πŸ’š

That's all from me for now. Have a lovely week and see you all soon. πŸ’šπŸ’š

Hello, wedding season has begun and I'm looking forward to being back at Beckenham Mansion in a couple of weeks for Freya and Sinan's wedding.πŸ’–

The mansion has the most beautiful Georgian features like this fireplace in the dining room. Each of the big rooms that are used for weddings there has a big fire surround but this one is my favorite because it's so elegant πŸ’–

I love the colour and the pretty decorations on the panel above the mantle - it makes such a stunning focal point for the room which most couples use for dining and dancing!

I'm very proud to be a recommended florist for Beckenham Place Mansion and I absolutely love working there - I even got married there myself - so if you are planning a wedding at this beautiful building and are looking for a passionate, knowledgeable and experienced florist who knows this building inside out please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you.πŸ’–

Thank you to Tricia at Portrayed Photography for the beautiful photos πŸ™
