🖤 TONY DE VIT — 12 SEPTEMBER 1957 🖤

Today would have been Tony De Vit’s birthday.

It’s difficult for me to put into words just how much this man influenced my life.

Long before I ever imagined where my own journey in music would take me, Tony was one of the people who showed me what was possible behind a pair of decks. The energy, the music, the way he controlled a room — there was simply nobody else like him.

When we lost Tony, it genuinely felt like the scene had lost part of its heartbeat.

I’ll never forget being part of the Tony De Vit Memorial at Brixton Academy. Standing there and seeing just how many people this one man had touched was something that stayed with me. It wasn’t simply the loss of a DJ — people had lost someone who had helped define an entire era of their lives.

Years later, my own journey somehow brought me back to Tony’s music, and I’ve had the enormous privilege of remixing and reworking parts of the TDV catalogue.

I can honestly say that responsibility has never been lost on me.

Whenever I sit in the studio with Tony’s music in front of me, there’s a little voice saying: “Don’t f**k this up, Nicholson.” 😂❤️

Because you’re not just remixing another record.

You’re touching history.

And I hope, in my own small way, I’ve helped introduce some of Tony’s incredible music to another generation while always respecting what made it so special in the first place.

Nearly three decades later, we’re still talking about him. Still playing his records. Still listening to those sets. Still hearing his influence in the music being made today.

Happy Birthday, Tony. ❤️

Thank you for the music, the inspiration and for helping shape the path that so many of us ended up walking.
