This classic pub in the heart of Clerkenwell is full of hearty food, delicious drinks, and great company. Drop by for live music, pub quiz, or simply for a friendly chat. After coming in a few times, you’ll be greeted by name and asked if you’d like your usual. It feels like a local from a small village in the centre of London.
The pub hadn’t changed much over 200 years, so it was time for a bit of a facelift when the current owner took possession in 2022. As well as getting an updated interior, the landlady involved the community in the revamp, asking them what they wanted out of their local. It now hosts a number of unique events, including singalongs, talent shows, and even dog shows! The pub is so beloved by its community that it even has a local football team named after it!

Having stood as a buzzing pub for over a century and a half, Dartmouth Arms has overcome its share of struggles. After being closed and turning the upstairs into flats, the pub was a shadow of itself. Following a local campaign which managed to turn it back into a functioning pub, it eventually made its way into the hands of the current owners. Focusing on all of the elements that were needed to return it to its former glory, they made sure to create a space that would welcome people of all ages, in all walks of life.

The Raven, Tower Bridge, one of the 70+ independent pubs that are part of the CityStack London Pub Collection. 👀

We all know the tale of the ravens at the Tower of London, and how the monarchy alongside the rest of England will fall if the Tower is ever without ravens. Due to the pub’s proximity to the Tower, it is no wonder that it took its name from the protectors of the crown and country. The pub is even popular with those who work directly with the ravens at the tower! Ravenmaster Christopher Skaife has been known to frequent the Raven Tower, and even won a contest to name the stuffed crow behind the bar! He named her Merlina, after his favourite raven at the tower who sadly flew away.

The Devereux, one of the 70+ independent pubs that are part of the London Pub Collection. 👀

This elegant pub is nestled on a quiet side street in the heart of Temple, making it an often overlooked treasure. Ideally located just a short walk away from Temple station, it is also nearby other locations that make up the heart of London, such as Covent Garden, Fleet Street, and the Strand.
The Devereux was originally built in 1677 as a Grecian Coffee House, and saw many famous patrons, including Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Edmund Halley, and Hans Sloane. In 1841 the former coffee house was rebuilt as a pub, and its previously scholarly customer base changed into solicitors, barristers, and judges, due to its close proximity to Middle Temple. Being close to Fleet Street, it also housed plenty of journalists. These days, the pub is run by the beloved landlord Tony, who is always happy to recount stories of the Devereux.

The Queen's Head, one of the 70+ independent pubs that are part of the London Pub Collection. 👀

Originally opened in 1827, the Queen's Head is draped in history with many a story to tell. Most infamously, the Queen’s Mother once pulled her own behind the bar. A pint of Bitter so good that it “tasted better than the champagne served at the palace”. Now that’s one hell of a talking point for the Landlord, Tyler, who recently took over this East London pub in December 2023. Running his own construction company, he has been able to re-design the pub himself, keeping the visual heritage proudly on display inside and out, with historical memorabilia carefully positioned alongside modern refurbishments. It’s a slice of London’s Victoria Quarter history, and the establishment even inspired the EastEnders’ pub; ‘the Queen Victoria’.
