Open-format DJing isn’t for everyone. Some DJs just want to stay in one lane and play afro house, drum & bass or house music, and fair enough 🙌🎧

But in my opinion, open-format DJing is only getting more popular. It’s more work, no doubt about it… constantly updating playlists, knowing when to switch the vibe, when to shake the room up and when to change direction. But if you’re a beginner DJ in 2026 and you want a better chance of finding work, I genuinely think being willing to play open format gives you a big advantage 🔥🎶

How smart is this that Mason made for me? 🙌❤️

A full 3D design of a DJ booth, me stood behind it with a set of turntables… and to top it all off, a QR code that actually worked 😮‍💨🔥 I scanned it and it took me to a website with pictures of me and Mason DJing together during one of his lessons.👏🎶

Be selective with your music 😤🎧

Don’t just keep a track because it was free, because it came in a torrent, because your mate sent you a zip pack, or because you ripped it off YouTube. That’s how you end up becoming a digital hoarder, and all it does is slow your workflow down as a DJ 💻📁

Question every track. Simple rule… if you’re not gonna play it, bin it 🗑️🔥
