V29 Folklore with Matt Tango Ellerby
Firstly, this V sesh filled my heart. This week the creators were taken on an immersive journey across Lincolnshire in form of folklore by the very talented Tango! He creatively captures the weird and wonderful local tales and cleverly transforms them in to fun folk songs. And does so with such a gentle and delightful energy. I did chuckle when you brought out the kazoo, hehe.
But while swishing away painting, it dawned on me the lost art of story telling. I thought about the last time someone had read a story to me and realised for most of us, that stops in childhood. As I listened and painted, it dawned on me how beautiful the art of story telling is and how before technology, storytelling held a huge part of our connection, identity and entertainment. I really allowed myself to indulge in the magic and comfort of a story being shared and am so grateful to Tango for sharing his talent so captivatingly.
It was during this session, I suddenly realised I sadly knew nothing of the tales once passed from generation to generation. All the stories of Lincolnshire had passed me by and I realised how special it was to have someone sharing them in stories and songs and keeping them alive. I thought about all the humans who once lived that would have heard of the Black Shuck and what images they would have conjured in their mind. I was captivated by the tales and am going to have to ask Tango to come back so I can hear them all again!
So thank you V29 crew. Thank you I, Jo Tolley Katy Polly Fotheringham Lauren Cook Samantha Ward Joey Mackin Thank you for sharing the joy of creativity. It really felt like a comforting bedtime story .
Finally, thank you Tango! Your creativity, your passion, the way you cleverly threaded the folk tales together, the way you performed your craft and all the songs you have written to bring that moment to life, is truly so special. I am just so grateful to have experienced such pure creativity! Loved sharing the space with you! And I now also have been left with a thirst to know more about Lincolnshire Folk tales!
Till the next sesh,
Em x
