Chiroptera Promotions & Northants Hunt Saboteurs Presents the Barry Horne 25th Anniversary Fundraiser
After last year's very successful fundraiser, we are pleased to team up once again with the amazing Northants Hunt Saboteurs.
This year is a special one, as we pay tribute to Barry Horne. Barry was a working class man from Northampton who started his animal rights path with the Northants Hunt Sabs. He was also involved in the attempted liberation of Rocky the dolphin and the successful liberation of 82 beagle puppies and 26 rabbits, whose fates would have been a lifetime of cruelty in laboratories. These are just 2 examples of the work he did for animal liberation.
Barry eventually started to work alone and began several acts of economic sabotage against companies that were complicit in animal suffering. These acts were designed to hit these companies where it hurts most, their wallets. He was arrested for this and handed an 18 year sentence.
During his sentence, he began several hunger strikes in protest over the government's policies on animal testing. These unfortunately took their toll on his body and on the 5th of November 2001, Barry passed away.
25 years later, the government has still not made life for animals in labs any better. Today beagles are still bred for cruel, unnecessary experiments, foxes are still hunted under the smokescreen of "trail hunting" and the government is still not keeping their promise of being the most animal friendly government in history.
So let us all come together and raise a glass to Barry and all he's done for the animal rights movement and in his name, we can do more for the animals we share this planet with.
Joining us for our afternoon of celebration and fundraising we have some amazing live sets from Hemiptera, Votiv, Anti Stasi, Value Of Nothing and Golfers. All funds raised will go towards the Northants Hunt Saboteurs current campaign to close the Cottesmore Hunt.
