COSMOPOLITAN ARTS ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE 2022
AMANDA LEANDRO
Artistic producer / director - Quote on face from Amanda: Life is short and precious, it should be enjoyed by all without fear or oppression. Regardless of the colour of your skin, heritage, sexuality or background, we are all unique and this must be celebrated. We have to strive for equality, so we can all appreciate our time and live in harmony.
My vision and concept for this project was to create an immersive combined arts performance that embraces digital technology, to be seen in various ways. I produced and directed this piece, working to make sure we created something spectacular for Leicester. We mapped projected animation onto buildings in Green Dragon Square and used lighting to create an immersive experience, with the musicians, vocalists and dancers. This was recorded with an audience and shown online and on video walls across the city centre as part of the Cosmopolitan Arts Festival. This was then re-edited to create an immersive and interactive digital combined arts experience.
I commissioned Lisa Millett, Jafro and Mr Shay to write lyrics that tackle the issue of racism, through being evocative and entertaining. I also commissioned Richard Everitt and Adrian Blissett to compose music for this performance. David Anderson, Mike Sole and Andrew Price were the backbone of this project, forming the rhythm section, co-composing tunes and composing ‘Mission Vibration’. Hari Trivedi added traditional East meets West style on tabla and co-composed ‘Karmatic’. The brass section included Ryan West, Gareth John and Richard Everitt... this phenomenal musical dream team are known as ‘Cosmopolitan Ensemble’.
Keith Allott filmed and edited the whole performance, Andrew Gurski recored, mixed and mastered the sound and Simeon Rice who created the animation and interactive technology within this piece, all worked relentlessly to help create this magical project. Thank you to the Haymarket Shopping Centre for their help and support with this project, and Leicester City Council for their support and match funding. Arts Council England funded this project, thank you to them for having the belief in my ideas and creativity to make this happen. Watch here:
