I have spent this afternoon completing my response to the Government's Consultation paper on Wedding Reform!

Fellow celebrants and all interested parties, I urge you to do the same. The paper asks critical questions about what marriage should look like going forward and from a selfish point of view specifically whether Independent Celebrants should be eligible for registration as wedding officiants. Obviously my answer is yes!

Here's a link to the consultation paper; you can respond online. Just search for Wedding Reform and it will offer you the option.

Have you heard of a 'Living Funeral'? Have you been to one? Would you consider holding one? If you have experience or thoughts about this type of occasion, I'd love it if you would share them, if you're comfortable to do so. If it's a new concept to you, this blog explains what it is!

Would you consider a Living Funeral? This growing trend allows you to say when and how you say goodbye!

In my role as an Independent Celebrant I see the importance of human connections every single day. Connections come in all shapes and sizes and are different for different people at different times of life. Personally, I am a big fan of letter writing - the old fashioned kind. It's great to see that others share my interest - I recently came across The Sunday Letter Project which warmed my heart as does The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society. I also discovered Pigeon Posted, a combination of letter and envelope specifically designed to provide a small writing area that's not as intimidating as a blank piece of letter writing paper. If these initiatives continue to grow, perhaps I'll have to write a new blog, on the 'Rediscovery of Letter Writing' - that would be fab!

When did you last write a letter? Which is the most valuable letter you've received?

Letter writing has fallen out of fashion but this article explains why for some it's still a valuable pastime.

If you are interested in the nature and importance of ritual this is a marvellous listen. So many invaluable insights including the possibility that we're on the cusp of a ritual renaissance. I for one certainly hope so!

For Jungians, ritual is a means of coming into alignment with others and with the numinous. Author Bruce Feiler joins us to discuss a renaissance of ritual.

Two years to the day since my first funeral! Reflecting on how rewarding each and every funeral is and feeling grateful to the families who trust me to lead their services and the funeral directors who trust me to represent them.

Two years ago I took my first funeral service. I knew then that I would find funeral work rewarding; I didn't realise just how rewarding it would be. Thank you to every single family who has trusted me to lead a service for their loved one. My sincere thanks go also to each of the funeral directors, who have trusted me to represent them, especially J Stamp & Sons who took a risk for that first funeral and have booked me for so many since - I am truly grateful.

This is not my usual funeral attire but worn for a lady who loved bright colours and loved her garden. Her funeral was awash with colour!
