"We have seen that changing personal behaviour takes time. It is not a sprint, it is a marathon." Do you agree with Ralf Dassau, Project Lead, Workplace Change Management, Vattenfall?

Ahead of his session, we asked Ralf three key questions about workplace transformation:

🔹 How did you tackle change management challenges and keep employees engaged?
👉 Resistance to change is natural, but participation is key. At Vattenfall, employees were actively involved through best practice visits, joint planning, and continuous communication. When people felt part of the process, many moved from resistance to acceptance – and even excitement.

🔹 What surprising insights have you gained about office space usage?
👉 Even when great workspaces exist, people don’t always use them as intended. While 88% of employees valued having a variety of work settings, nearly 70% rarely switched spaces. This shows that offering choice isn’t enough—workspaces must be designed to encourage behavioural change.

🔹 What key adaptations are essential for the future workplace?
👉 Accessibility is critical, as commuting is a major reason people avoid the office. Future workplaces will also need to feel more inviting and less corporate, with a stronger focus on well-being, hospitality, and balancing collaboration with focused work. Offices must offer more than just a desk—they need to provide real value, connection, and personal growth opportunities.
