If you have Pride or Yorkshire Day bunting on display, please don’t throw it away when you take it down. From 10th August, the Ilkley BID team will be coming round to collect it, ready to be reused for future celebrations. Thank you!

19 years.
It’s a slightly strange thing to write, because I still often feel like I’m making it up as I go along.
What started with one smoke machine and a belief that I could do things properly has somehow become nearly two decades of shows, events, long days, late nights, brilliant people and more stories than I could ever count.
None of it has happened on my own.
There have been clients who trust us with their ideas, suppliers who helped make the impossible possible, freelancers and crew and mentors who brought their talent and graft, and friends and family who support me through all the madness and crazy ideas. Together, they’ve enabled me and Stage Management Company, to help people tell their stories for 19 years. I’ll never take that for granted.
If I’m honest, recently it’s felt more of a struggle.
Behind every finished show is a fairly tireless run of late night invoicing, reconciling, paperwork, planning, fixing, worrying and continually reinvesting to keep upto date with an ever changing technical world. All the unglamorous bits of running a business that nobody sees and that Facebook certainly doesn’t show you. It probably won’t even show you this post.
It’s tiring, lonely and when the imposter syndrome kicks in, you can find yourself wondering whether you’re actually any good at this at all.
But everyone has a dream.
Mine was to believe in myself, better myself and keep learning, developing and collaborating with good people. That’s what I set out to do, and it’s still what I’m trying to do today.
There are no flash offices. No mega warehouse. No rule books.
Just a core belief in honest, reliable service, proper attention to detail and giving people genuine value for money.
No bu****it. Just helping create amazing stories and having a few good laughs along the way.
Above everything else, I’ve always just wanted to be a nice person to work with.
After 19 years, I must be doing something right.
Thank you to every single person who has been part of it. Here’s to whatever story comes next. Pete.
