Macaulay and Hay are a folk duo from Moray in the north-east of Scotland, united by a shared passion for traditional folk music and honest story telling. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Hamish Imlach, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt and The Mary Wallopers, they blend Scottish and Irish folk traditions with Americana influences to create a rugged, laid back sound that's entirely their own. Whether breathing new life into old songs or delivering heartfelt originals. Macaulay and Hay bring warmth, wit and authenticity to every performance, celebrating the timeless spirit of folk music while making it feel fresh for modern audiences.

Sharing for our friends at Deveron Projects. Sounds interesting!

Are you a frustrated freelancer? A precarious project worker? A stressed supervisor? A disgruntled dayshift worker?

Raise your voice in song with artist-in-residence Rah Naqvi, and come together with others to gossip, whisper and build solidarity through shared experiences of work. Come along to creatively vent and express your workplace frustrations, and create new working songs for Huntly in the process.

Since May, Rah has been connecting with musicians and enthusiastic vocalists to explore the power of song to tell stories, share experience, unite and connect through time and geography. This has led Rah to explore local Bothy Ballads, and working song traditions from around the world. Grounded in histories of rural labour and protest movements, folk music traditions like these have always been a powerful way of bringing people together to voice grievances, lament loss and spread news.

Join us to build upon these legacies and create a new ballad for Huntly. Through a series of five vocal and songwriting workshops, we will raise our voices in beautifully out-of-tune song, chants and vocal exercises. We will explore simple and fun prompts to write collective songs based on our experiences of work. Each session will build on the next, with the support of Rah and invited guest artists. Together we will make our voices heard and build solidarity in the process.

→ 5th, 13th & 26th August / 2nd, 4th September. Come along to one or more workshop. Each will build on the one before.

→ No singing experience required - bad singers very, very welcome!
→ Children and young people are welcome to join in.

Last Saturday evening we had a really special show at the Tin Hut in aid of "Autism's Got Talent." Young artists Andrew McMurdie and Aaron Clark gave a fine performance throughout the evening accompanied by Andy Clark. We would like to thank everyone who came along to support this endeavour with a special thanks to Orb Bookshop for their generous sponsorship and the GCA for waiving the hall hire fee. It is only because of the efforts of everyone involved in the show and those that came along that we are able to send the sum of £300 to the charity.
