'When we first started planning our wedding, one thing we knew for certain was that we wanted our ceremony to feel personal, intimate and truly reflective of us. We wanted that special touch that you can’t quite put into words, and from the moment we met Hannah, we knew she was exactly the person to help us create it.

Like many couples, we didn’t really know where to begin with wedding planning. Hannah immediately put us at ease by arranging a call, introducing herself, answering our questions and giving us practical advice on where to start. That first conversation left such an impression on us that we knew we wanted her to be part of our wedding day.

Throughout the entire process, Hannah made everything feel effortless. She is incredibly warm, kind and easy to talk to, and over the months we built such a lovely rapport through our conversations and emails. She guided us every step of the way, helping us turn scattered thoughts and memories into a ceremony that felt completely authentic to us. What initially seemed overwhelming became something we genuinely looked forward to.

On the day itself, Hannah was simply incredible. She kept us both calm, gently talked us through what to expect, and delivered a ceremony that exceeded anything we could have imagined. She wove our words and our story together so beautifully that it felt like every single person there truly understood our journey as a couple. It was heartfelt, emotional, full of laughter and unmistakably us.

One of the things we’ll always be grateful for is that after the ceremony, Hannah stayed to look after our guests so that we could steal five precious minutes together as newlyweds. It’s something we’d recommend to every couple. Knowing everyone was in such safe hands allowed us to pause, take it all in and enjoy the first few moments of married life together.

Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the ceremony afterwards. So many people commented on how warm, welcoming and engaging Hannah was, and how beautifully she spoke. One moment that meant the world to us was seeing the extra care she took to make sure my husband and his mum, who are both deaf, didn’t miss a single part of the ceremony. Hannah thoughtfully prepared written versions of everything so they could experience every word alongside everyone else. That level of kindness, thoughtfulness and attention to detail is something we’ll never forget.

Looking back, Hannah wasn’t just our celebrant. She became such an important part of our wedding journey. She helped shape the most meaningful moment of our lives with genuine care, compassion and incredible talent. We honestly can’t imagine our wedding without her.

I'm having an AMAZING summer of ceremonies, I really am. ❤️ Every now and again though, I ask myself whether any guests sitting listening to any officiant ever wonder what else has gone on in their day.

As they say, every picture tells a story.

I'm hoping the first thing you notice in the photo below are the beautiful flowers, which my delightful couple last Saturday, Kate and Joe, so kindly presented to me when said my goodbyes during their reception. The eagle-eyed amongst you will also have noticed the flowers and I were in Kwik Fit. Other garages are of course available.

So what happened? Well much earlier that morning there I was on the M66, minding my own business and very happily motoring along to meet groom Joe for a walk and talk through. Until I wasn't. My rear tyre blew out of the blue and whilst I thankfully managed to get the car over to the hard shoulder without hitting anyone or hurting myself, it was pretty stressful to say the least. The tyre had actually left the car by this point, rolling its way through heavy traffic over to the far lane!

Once I'd caught my breath, my first thought was 'Settle!' and I won't lie, I could suddenly see the morning unravelling, even though I had lots of time in hand, as I always do. A brief panic may even have set in, which was mostly shock I think. Fortunately my luck was about to turn though because within minutes the nicest Highways Traffic Officer turned up to help...and boy, did he go over and above. What a difference the right person can make in a tricky situation. As you can tell, I don't know his name, but I am going to find out who he was and send him a proper thank you.

Wonderful Mystery Traffic Officer duly hugged (he went a bit pink), driving on a spare tyre at 49 miles an hour all the way to Settle was a test of my patience, I'll admit...and finding that by this point Settle was FULL and all my pre-planned parking spots were full too...and the only ones that were available were a 10/15 minute speed-walk from the venue in 30 degrees of heat...well it all got a bit sweaty there for a while...think of the scene in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' when they sprint past the jogger 🤣...but I got there with time to spare.

It's at times like this that the fact I always do videocall rehearsals before the day and Kate and Joe had done such a good job on their 30-point Practicalities Grid in advance really came into play. That meant Joe and his Best Men were able to do much of what they needed to do on their own - albeit with 146 updates from me as I inched nearer and nearer in the car! What a team. What a couple. What a ceremony. I'm delighted to say it all came together seamlessly for them and bride Kate was none the wiser, until regaled with all the chaos afterwards that is. 🥂

So thank you to my lovely groom Joe (and his trusty Best Men) - nobody wants a call starting 'Hi, It's Hannah. Now it's nothing to panic about BUT...' on the morning of their wedding day. Thank you to my fab colleagues on the day who listened to the haiku version of my usual info-giving and still nailed it (I'd been in touch with them before the day too - prep always matters). Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Anonymous Hero Traffic Officer - what a kind, gentle and helpful human you are.

Thank you to my ever-resourceful husband who had a list of viable garages waiting for me on my WhatsApp by the time the guests all headed out for fizz. Thank you to the ever-so-friendly Kwik Fit team in Skipton who agreed to fit me in at very short notice that afternoon so I could get a new tyre and actually go home, which in turn meant I could get to the naming I had the next day without fuss. They were also very patient when I had to hike back to the car mid-reception to work out what kind of tyres I had. 😉

What a lot of help everyone provided and I'm so grateful.

Let's hope the rest of the busy season is a little less dramatic, but no less joyful.

I have loved stories since I was a little girl - reading them, writing them, hearing them, imagining them... And now I get to tell people's stories for a living. It really is a dream 'job' for me.

Only it is so much more than how I pay my bills.

To stand with a bride and groom as they say vows that are theirs and only theirs. To name a child in a naming ceremony written only for them. To pay tribute to a lost loved one in their loved ones' words.

To work with two brides on bespoke writing for their wedding script that makes their day truly their own. To support and coach a father of the bride so he can give the speech he's been writing quietly over years, not just weeks. To work with family members to create a eulogy that becomes the central focus of a celebration of their beloved relative's whole life.

To create a text that's going to be framed on a new baby's nursery wall, welcoming them to the world. To write the text that fills a photo book in honour of a husband and husband's first big wedding anniversary. To work with a wedding stationer to make sure that my bespoke writing for their clients' Order of Service will really make their wedding stationery sing.

Fascinating, entertaining, touching and inspiring stories, one and all. What an honour it is to tell them.

I always thank them profusely of course, but I don't think clients realise just how touched I am when they unexpectedly give me gifts.

So thank you very much to Debs and Ricky for my beautiful bouquet. The looks on your faces during your handfasting were more than enough reward, but it has been wonderful to have this colourful reminder of you both in the house all week. 🥰

I know I say it all the time, but I really do work for the nicest people.

Time for another introduction perhaps, so hello world, this is me. 😊

My name is Hannah Wroe Gill and I'm a HUK Accredited Humanist Celebrant, speechwriter, writer, ceremony consultant and writing coach based in the picturesque Pennine village of Marsden, West Yorkshire.

In 2010 I set up my humanist ceremonies business Your Three Days, designing, writing and leading unforgettable bespoke ceremonies across Yorkshire, the Peak District, North West and beyond. It has been both an enormous privilege and pleasure to have worked with so many amazing couples and families over the years.

The more ceremonies I performed, so sister businesses Words and Wisdom and Portraits in Prose were born, created in response to ceremony guests asking me to write for them, their families and their friends. It also meant my writing offer was able to extend worldwide for the first time.

Through Words and Wisdom I create versatile texts for Registrar-led wedding ceremonies as well as reception toasts and speeches. I also write for funerals and create videography scripts, with a comprehensive consultancy and coaching service available too. I don't need to be physically present at any time, so can work extremely flexibly.

Through Portraits in Prose I create innovative text you can use within any bespoke wedding stationery, as well as writing photo book texts and framed pieces that celebrate the milestones of life. Both the latter are ideal as unique and thoughtful gifts. Again, I don't need to be present in person at any point, so can write for anyone, anywhere.
