Ceremonies by Gitte

Ceremonies by Gitte Hi! I’m Gitte! I create non-religious, non-traditional and meaningful wedding and funeral ceremonies.

What I did on a weekend I didn’t have a wedding - and why it’s work.

Visited the gorgeous (might be my new favourite barn venue) with Jon, one of the grooms.

Observed a new celebrant for full accreditation as a celebrant. passed with flying colours. Check her out if you want a bilingual wedding with Italian or French!

Worked on a wedding script by the sea - because I can.

Had a swim. Went to the gym

Why do I work on weekends when I don’t have a wedding?

I’m one of those people that can’t just “pop” to the gym in between commitments. It takes me half a day: psyching myself up, getting ready, eating the right thing before and after. Acclimitise after. Only shower at home.

And that goes for working outside home too. It takes prep and getting in and out of the zone takes ages for me.

Luckily, I have the choice to take off any other random day, when I need it. And pacing myself by spreading out work on less hours but on almost all days if the week seems better for me. Balance is everything.
Anyone relate?

A big gay cheer for Kate and Claire who married under a beautiful oak tree 🌳 yesterday with the best people cheering them on: with Mexican waves, singing ‘Silly love songs’ and warming their rings with so much love.

The most wonderful day spent with fabulous people, plenty of paella and music and merriment.

Congratulations! 🥰♥️🎉

The heat was on, all the colours out, jazz in the sunshine and 3 sing-alongs in the ceremony at beautiful .

Jen & Bruce's gorgeous full review of the wedding ceremony we created together:

"It was an absolute dream to celebrate our marriage with such a beautiful ceremony conducted by the gorgeous and warm soul that is Gitte Monis.

The whole process was so much more than just 'getting it done'.
We were both very impressed by how the ceremony preparation sessions with Gitte helped to focus our thoughts and feelings. Gitte is so easy to talk to and asked all the right questions in the right way to support our marriage preparation journey.

When the script was written and delivered we both cried tears of joy because the story of our relationship was so beautifully scribed and all ready for our families and special friends to hear on the big day.

That day came on one of the hottest days of 2025, The heat was on but Gitte brought such a wonderfully relaxed, fun and humorous atmosphere to the service to start the day that we both felt extra calm and ready for anything !

Weddings can be overwhelming to organise being such an important event, but Gitte definitely made us feel at ease and her wealth of experience made us feel held and guided.

Thank you Gitte for being the most perfect Celebrant, everyone LOVED you and the experience you created x
Could not recommend you more highly !
Love Jen and Bruce - Team Juice !!"

THANK YOU Team Juice for trusting me. Can we do it all again when you renew your vows?

There are so many ways to add fun to your wedding ceremony.

Jumping through hoops (metaphorically) or over a broom (actually) or trying to squeeze rituals in that Look fun, might not feel right for you.

The answer is probably to stick to focussing on your love story - everyone has some fun stories, quirks or experiences - and find a celebrant who can tease it all out and create a joyous experience all through your ceremony with your personalities and stories infused.

Hire a nanny, have grandma manage kids and miss the important bit, or just go with it?

If the kids are part of everything you do already, why not this commitment too?

Nothing wrong with wanting to do some things without the kids either!

What would you do?

Jade & Mali had a lovely intimate wedding ceremony at end of last year with their very closest people.

How does it feel to hear your love story...
told by your celebrant - and for everyone to hear all the details (or at least the details you want to share!)?

Well, I would tell your story in the style of you.
That could be like a rom-com script, because rom-coms are your guilty pleasure, with epic romantic vibes for the Tolkien lovers or with adventurous pace and surprises, because that's how you roll.

How your love story is presented should feel like you're experiencing it again, and your guests should feel fully invested and like they are almost on the journey with you.

These photos give a pretty good indication of how a few of my previous couples felt, don't you think?

And this is a small selection of what they said about it afterwards:

"... it is funny to still cry at stories that you've known for years because of how beautifully they're being told by someone else."

"The story Gitte told of us as a couple was joyous but not sentimental, with just the right amount of humour and drama. It was properly entertaining, and very “us”!"

"So many of our guests commented on the uniqueness of the ceremony and how moving and celebratory it was.
Like Gitte, my partner is also Danish and so having Gitte as a celebrant speaking the two languages really made my partner’s family feel at home."

" Everyone commented on how beautiful the ceremony was, and there were lots of laughs. Gitte even incorporated words in multiple languages."

"... her account of our love story was incredibly well crafted, funny and heartfelt."

Post wedding review (full):
"Gitte was our humanist celebrant for our wedding in September. She was fantastic at helping us through each step of our vows, a handfasting ceremony and the exchanging of rings. She was friendly, patient and more than anything excited for us! She made our ceremony so special and personal; she really put her all into it.

We had multiple meetings, both at our home, at the venue and video calls, and throughout it all she was able to provide us with guidance and advice , which allowed us to pull off a fantastic ceremony.

Thank you Gitte!"

This is my ceremony bingo card for 2026. A small, orderly collection of hopes for the year ahead.

Some (half) of them already on the cards - because plans are nice to tick off too.

🌿 A new outdoor venue discovered
♥️ More micro weddings, less pressure - 1 on the cards, so far
❄️ A winter wedding, full of wonder
⛲️ A ceremony in a museum garden - on the cards

(will probably add even more)

Because the best ceremonies feel intentional, human, and a little magical.

If one of these squares sounds like you, we should probably talk.
