The Archives Taster Day held at Choppards Mission on Sunday 20th Oct was a huge success. In a superb interactive exhibition, Kathryn Sheard and Sian Salt presented a sample of their research findings of almost 200 years of Choppards history. The event was generously supported by Longley Farm, The Oil Can Café and several volunteer helpers. More than 200 people visited the event, many sharing their personal memories and stories, and over £500 was raised towards the ongoing maintenance and development costs at Choppards Mission.
Eight raffle prize tickets were drawn on the day and all winners have now been notified.
An inspiring message from the day was the special place that Choppards Mission holds in peoples’ hearts and memories. We desperately want that to continue. We continue to seek a conclusion to the proposed and long-awaited transfer of the building via a lease from the Church to Choppards Community Association. This would enable applications for funding for major improvement works. In the meantime, the Community Association needs to expand its tiny group of helpers who work behind the scenes:
• Organisers of public events and fundraising activities.
• Volunteers to become trustees of Choppards Community Association (registered charity).
• A larger pool of available helpers to assist at events, with their publicity and with cleaning and maintenance of the premises.
