On 24th November 2025 a team of 15 arrived at to build (the UK’s first 15ft balloon Christmas tree inside an 18ft globe, supporting 10 amazing charities) and we were all excited to get going.
What people don’t see about balloon work is the grit behind it, the long journeys, early starts, late finishes, time away from home, lugging equipment, planning, last min changes, last min orders, huge teams, huge personalities, clashes, the list goes on… it’s organised chaos at the very least! But most of all it’s fun and we love it!
I’m going to give a day by day of the experience, what I gained from it, and ultimately what it takes to get a project done… when at times you’re not sure you will have the time, sanity or energy…
Day 1 - Everyone arrived, I travelled with and we done a 95 mile trip (not including her 2 hour train journey to meet me)… Whenever we arrive at a project like this it’s like family coming together, the balloon world is weird, you only know if you know and we all know! Anyway kit was unloaded, tables were moved, balloons were sorted, memorial balloons were prepped, branch frames were made, measured, bent, tested, re-tested, cable tied, re-measured, wrapped with tape and finally wrapped with balloons.
Although the tree is now built, the fundraising challenge continues, and targets need to be met.
