Funeral directors don't talk nearly enough about the brilliant service they offer. Treating people with respect, caring for the body of the deceased with respect and dignity and helping those left behind honour the one they love, in exactly the way that reflects them.

We are loving caring humans beings, and the finality of death is abrupt, and it can difficult to adjust to the absence of our loved one.

By having a funeral service, it isn't being a nuisance to your family, as the TV direct cremation adverts would have you believe. It's allowing the people you love the most, to come to terms with the absence of you, to grieve together, to cry, to lean on each other, to draw close to each other in love and support, to say goodbye together, to mark your passing, to gain closure, and knowing that they have honoured you well, they can then move on and live their lives well.

Sometimes, after a family meeting, you need a little time to simply breathe, take a walk and let your surroundings do the talking. ❤️

After meeting with a client in the café at Rowheath Pavilion today, I took a wander around the grounds before heading off.

And what a lovely little reminder it was to slow down and notice what was around me. 🍂

The autumn colours are beginning to appear, the wildflower meadow is still providing plenty of life and the squirrels were busy gathering their winter stores. 🐿️

There were geese and ducks enjoying the water, fishermen quietly waiting for their next catch, and people simply sitting, walking and enjoying the surroundings.

It was peaceful, unhurried and a welcome break after what had been an emotional and important family meeting.

Sometimes it's the simple things, a walk, a bit of fresh air and nature around you that give you the space to pause, reflect and reset. 🍁🦆🌿

And today, I was very grateful for that little bit of calm.

This morning I had the privilege of delivering a ceremony at Waseley Hills Crematorium working alongside the fantastic team from Mortons Funeral Directors, serving Birmingham & Worcestershire, for a truly lovely lady.

She was vibrant, caring and someone who always put others first. Most importantly, she was loved by everyone who knew her, and that really came through in the stories and memories shared by her family.

As a celebrant, it’s an honour to be trusted to tell someone’s story and help their family say goodbye.
But it’s also a privilege to work alongside funeral directors and crematorium staff who are just as committed to making sure families are looked after.

Working in partnership really does make such a difference. When everyone involved knows their role, communicates well and genuinely cares, the family can feel confident that they are in safe hands.

And I have to say, it’s always a pleasure coming to Waseley, not just because of the professionalism, but also because of the Obitus goody bag (I love a free pen and notebook 📒 ) and the compliments! 😂

Apparently, today I was told I look at least 10 years younger than I actually am! 🙆‍♀️💪🏻

I’ll take that… especially when I’m a woman of a certain age! 😂

A beautiful farewell for a beautiful lady, and another reminder of why I feel so privileged to do what I do. 💚🤍🩷
