I am endlessly inspired by and her ability to transform sugar into sculpture, creating wedding cakes that are edible works of art. I am sharing a few of my favourite collaborations with her today as I reflect on the recurring debate about the cost of wedding cakes, whether grand in scale or beautifully understated.
My advice to couples is always this: whether your preference is for an architectural centrepiece or a smaller yet exquisitely refined design, a couture cake is never simply sponge and icing. Long before a single tier is baked there are design consultations, detailed correspondence, flavour development and tastings, sketches and revisions, all shaped in dialogue with your wider aesthetic and the proportions of your venue. Add to this the hours of skilled craftsmanship, hand finished sugar work, structural precision, premium ingredients, temperature controlled transport, venue access planning and intricate on site installation and it becomes clear that what appears effortless in the final photograph represents weeks of highly specialised labour behind the scenes.
Importantly, reducing the size does not remove the framework of work. A smaller cake still requires consultation, design time, baking, finishing, delivery and installation, which is why even a modest yet beautifully executed piece represents a considered investment. You can absolutely choose something small, simple and exquisitely refined if that aligns with your priorities, just don’t underestimate the artistry involved and to invest accordingly in the time, expertise and craftsmanship that underpin such work.

Throwback to last summer when we transformed the sweeping English lawn at Somerley House into a pastoral white garden ceremony, layering hundreds of delphiniums to create a dense floral aisle that felt as though it had grown there naturally.
A bespoke raised stage and abundant botanical arch framed the Hampshire countryside beyond, while ornate ivory chairs and a soft neutral aisle runner brought structure and elegance to the landscape. Every element was carefully considered to honour the scale of this historic country house estate while keeping the atmosphere intimate, romantic and refined.
If you are dreaming of a destination wedding at a UK stately home and seeking a planning partner who understands both British heritage venues and international expectations, I would love to hear from you.

This image taken in the French Dining Room at dates back to 2018 - long before short form video and ever shifting algorithms began influencing how we present our work; I’ve always been drawn to venues with a magical balance of intimacy and grandeur, spaces that offer history and proportion and to a way of designing that prioritised quiet luxe over ostentation.
There have been moments, if I am honest, when I have questioned whether I should try to be ‘louder’ in a world that rewards spectacle. Successful Instagram content has become ever more polished and inventive, engineered to capture attention for a fleeting second and I often feel that I simply cannot compete. I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend hours creating content because I would rather spend my energy where it truly matters, immersed in my couples’ weddings and in the detail that no one else sees. I’m sure my couples would rather that I spent my time doing that too!
When those intrusive thoughts are loud, I have to remind myself that our position as recommended planners at the UK’s top hotels and stately homes, our national level award and our partnership with Harrods have never come from chasing visibility but rather from years of quietly demonstrating consistency of behaviours and results, earning trust and building our reputation.
I will never win the algorithm but I have built a business that does not rely on it and that feels far more enduring. If you’re looking for those qualities in your wedding planner, we’d love to hear from you 💫

It may be grey outside but in my head I’m channeling summer afternoons on the lawn ….
When designing and planning my couples’ drinks receptions, I focus on how we need their guests to feel - exquisitely hosted, lightly entertained and perfectly at ease in every sense.
Fresh, seasonal drinks with a little zest, plentiful canapés so no one is watching the trays too closely, elegant soft seating arranged for easy conversation, a well positioned bar that never feels crowded, gentle entertainment to lift the mood and always a thoughtful plan for shade or shelter.
Keep it flowing, keep your guests comfortable and amused and resist the temptation to let it run too long. It’s then the perfect quintessentially English lawn party, relaxed yet refined, allowing you and guests to soak up the surroundings and enjoy the moment whilst anticipating what is yet to come.

ENDURING LOVE // In 2018, this table became our very first published work, shared in just months after I founded Couture, following two decades immersed in high end events across London’s most iconic hotels and historic venues.
When I look at it now, it does not feel tied to 2018 because it was never built around a moment in time, but instead I was influenced by the scale and quiet grandeur of the room as well as personal values of heritage and intention over passing aesthetics.
At the start of every year, our feeds overflow with colour forecasts, must have styling and the next big things for 2026 but I still think that longevity feels like the truest measure of success, because when a wedding is rooted in its setting and in personal meaning rather than prediction, it will carry with it a sense of enduring relevance which to me is way more meaningful than fleeting popularity.
Let me know if you agree?

Earlier this week I shared a glimpse of the ceremony I designed for J&N at the Hotel Café Royal, where tumbling orchids in the softest pinks and whites were arranged in a gentle semi circle on clear plinths at varying heights, intentionally curved to embrace the couple and create intimacy within the grandeur of the gilded Pompadour Room.
What I did not mention then was that my design was conceived with quiet strategy - I wanted the flowers to then transition seamlessly from ceremony to dinner. I shared my thoughts with the team at Jamie Aston who translated my vision perfectly, creating a refined composition of tall glass vessels of cascading orchids and low bowls of roses which together formed a layered canopy for the vows and, once repositioned, became a stunning landscape of tall and low arrangements across the dining tables, illuminated by taper candles and soft night lights.
I believe that good design is not simply how something looks but how intelligently it serves the flow of your celebration. We design with your priorities at the forefront, ensuring every detail delivers both beauty and purpose in equal measure. There is something wonderfully cinematic about descending the staircase at Cliveden House on your way to your ceremony, the hush before the doors open, the light catching your veil, the knowledge that everyone you love is waiting below. It is a moment you will remember forever and one that deserves to feel composed and immaculate in every frame.
On a practical note, hair and make up artists tend to quote as standard for their services with the bridal party up until the ceremony begins, but we always recommend that our brides retain their beauty team until after the ceremony, so that they are on hand for touch ups after an emotional exchange of vows, combined with hugs, kisses and quite possibly a bit of breeze!
Many of our brides retain their team until late into the evening, to prepare them for a second or third look but at the very least, I’d urge all brides to consider covering that extra window of time between your ceremony and your photographs, a small extension of time but one which you’ll be grateful for in many years time when you’re looking picture perfect in your portraits 💫

The magnificent Pompadour Room at Hotel Cafe Royal is rich with gilded detailing and history, so for J and B we chose pale pink and white orchids softened with the faintest n**e tones so the florals would sit gently within the room and not compete with it. The result felt considered and calm which is always the goal.
An effortless ceremony is rarely about doing more but rather about choosing wisely, so today I thought I’d share 5 principles that quietly guide the way I plan ceremonies for our couples.
💫 Let The Room Lead
Whether inside or outside, every space has its own character; we always prefer to honour it with designs that feel natural and at ease rather than transform it beyond recognition. In my opinion, harmony will always feel more refined than excess.

💫 Think About How It Feels To Sit There
Designing from the perspective of your guests is crucial - guidance on arrival, sightlines, audibility & comfort. These details may seem small yet they shape the entire emotional experience.

💫 Protect The Pace
A gentle pause before starting the processional, words that are heartfelt without becoming lengthy. Let your ceremony unfold with quiet confidence rather than rushing or putting on a performance.

💫 The unseen work
There is significant choreography involved in aligning musicians, registrars, photographers and your wedding party to ensure a smooth and seamless ceremony. When it is done well though, no one will ever notice it.

💫 Presence Over Perfection
The sun going behind a cloud, a small person or four legged friend not ‘understanding the assignment’ during the processional. None of this matters, in my opinion what endures is the feeling in the room when you make your vows and the sense of calm that allowed you to be fully present.
If your vision is less about impressing a room and more about honouring a moment, we are aligned 💫

THROWBACK // When I founded Couture Events in 2018 I had already spent more than 20 years delivering high end events at iconic London venues, but I didn’t have any portfolio imagery which reflected what I was personally drawn towards — heritage, exclusivity and intimate grandeur. Much of the wedding content that I was seeing back then felt safe and pleasant (and if I’m honest, bland and forgettable) and I knew I wanted to be known for something bolder and more enduring. So, with nothing more than a concept and quiet conviction, I reached out to one of the world’s finest country house hotels, Cliveden House and the result was a feature in global platform (at a time when a feature meant a multi image spread earned on merit rather than a thumbnail photo for a fee) as well as the hotel themselves recommending us and using my imagery for their marketing.
It confirmed for me that there was an appetite for my approach and we haven’t looked back since. Without a doubt, we have come a long way since then - we operate in a very specific niche, we are multi award winning, proud to hold a long standing contract with Harrods and to be recommended at the UK’s finest venues but our foundations remain the same: a belief that style is timeless, intentional and deeply rooted in place.
If that resonates with you, let’s talk.

Ceremony Tip // This was such a beautiful wedding and I loved every second of working with J & B a few years back to design and deliver it. But it also reinforced a pattern I’d been noticing — one I’ve quietly counselled my couples on ever since.
The first time it happened at a wedding, I considered it unfortunate. The second time, bad luck. But when it happened on this day, so for the third time, it was no longer chance — it was a predictable, avoidable pattern.
Can you spot it…?
The cylinder base lined aisle.
They photograph beautifully and create undeniable atmosphere. We’ve had them successfully over the many times and they have always looked exquisite. But in my experience, it is so frequent that one is accidentally nudged, causing at best a water spill and an extinguished wick, or worse, broken glass, and of course usually this is just moments before the bride arrives (she is never aware of course, either before or afterwards!)
There’s naturally no drama, it’s dealt with smoothly, efficiently and discreetly, but part of my role is to quietly remove points of risk, distraction and last-minute tension during a wedding and especially during the most emotionally charged moment of the day.
Today we tend to design ceremony aisles with either floral runners or larger lanterns rather than cylinder vases - a small detail but one which is the difference between considered design and avoidable distraction.

2026 has certainly got off to a wonderful start.
2025 was the first year in some time that we didn’t have a December wedding, which allowed me to take a full two-week pause but since returning in January, it has been wonderfully busy.
We began the year with a charming Formula 1–themed children’s party in Fulham, and we’re now looking forward to a 50th birthday celebration in March, a 55th in June (our third time working with this client), and a 10 year wedding anniversary in August. Our wedding season begins in April at the beautiful Goodwood, with a number of exceptional venues to follow as the year unfolds.
I’ve chosen to share this image today because I am always in awe of Rubana’s approach at , and collaborating with her was such a privilege. She creates extraordinary hand-painted stationery inspired by the past and reinterpreted for the modern global couple — exquisitely detailed, entirely bespoke, and designed to become heirloom pieces.
We love working with creative partners like Rubana whose values align so closely with our own: creating one-of-a-kind experiences, never designed for repetition. That same philosophy underpins everything we do at Couture Events — designing impeccably considered wedding weekends for international couples who value discretion, depth and effortless ex*****on in Britain’s most exceptional private venues. Thoughtful curation sits at the heart of our service, pairing our couples with aligned creative partners and managing every detail with calm precision.
