๐ท Here's what you need to know, as this is a story I hear too often as a funeral celebrant.
๐ท Sadly, the endless TV adverts for direct cremations offer a rosy glow with the implication all minds will be at rest, just as your person is, once you take out a plan.
๐ท There is a place for direct cremations - or 'funeral without service' - especially if family is scattered across the country, or understand, and are happy with, their person's wishes, or there is little or no family left.
But...
๐ท With the TV/online companies, your person may be transported to a 'warehouse' several counties away, and you'll not be able to visit them, nor see the 'beautiful cremation ground' shown. They can be misleading over cost and comparisons.
๐ท Your local funeral directors also offer plans for direct cremations, for around the same price, with a far more personal service to you, knowing when and where the direct cremation is (usually at your local crematorium) and you may be able to visit your loved one before.
๐ท Those left behind can still organise a celebration of life - at any time or place. You don't need a funeral director. You don't need a rushed slot at a crem.
๐ท You can approach your chosen funeral celebrant/officiant direct (search 'funeral celebrants near me' - to find the websites of professional celebrants; maybe follow a couple on social media to have a name ready for whenever the time comes), who will help you organise it and write a bespoke ceremony.
๐ท My clients opt for a function venue or favourite restaurant of the deceased; somewhere altogether cheerier - and have a better 'send off' experience (without time pressure or constraints), that reassures them that they've said farewell in a way that is fitting, comforting, and celebrates their person in the best way.
