🐝 We may have mentioned our fascination with bees.
We are lucky to be able to call ourselves beekeepers.
Bees don't need a sprinkle of magic, they are magic. Standing by a hive, feeling the hum is all you need to believe.
For our next event we'll be bringing our delicious honey, complete with beeswax candle, honey dibber and magical uses scroll.
Blooms, Brooms, Bicycles & Bees. Honestly we didn't plan it that way! β™₯️

🩡 The Hearth Broom.
Ever since I first read Cynthia Main's book on traditional broom making, I've wanted to make a true hearth broom.
Well... here she is.
She certainly wasn't without her challenges.
From wrapping the broomcorn tightly under constant tension whilst trying to persuade the handle into place with a mallet, and trying to taper the broomcorn without slicing my legs, this broom has taught me a lot. There was plenty of trial and error, wrapping, unwrapping, re-wrapping, a few muttered words, and all whilst working around a rather grumpy tennis elbow!
She's far from perfect. The naturally wonky sycamore handle has bags of character, though perhaps next time we'll hunt for one that's a little straighter. Every step has been a lesson.
But despite the challenges, I'm genuinely proud of how she has turned out.
A fully working hearth broom, hand-bound with waxed cord, finished with a sturdy leather hanging loop, and crafted from natural broomcorn and a little patience woven into every binding.
Here's to many more besoms, many more lessons, and keeping traditional crafts alive, one broom at a time.
