Enjoyed an uplifting afternoon at the Dark Peak Music Foundation’s Summer Concert at The Parish Church of All Saints, Old Glossop - a wonderful way to round off the 2024–25 season.

It was a joy to hear so many talented young musicians performing across both parts of the concert. From the Junior Strings’ lively rendition of "The Wellerman" and the Senior Strings bringing Vivaldi to life, to the Young Voices Choir melting our hearts with "The Seal Lullaby" and the Intermediate Strings impressing with "The Bare Necessities", part 1 alone was 90 minutes of sheer musical delight.

Part 2 kept the magic going. The Glossop Junior Wind Band opened with "March from First Blow", followed by the Chinley Junior Wind Band’s brilliant take on Rudy. Their combined performance of the Wallace & Gromit theme was a real crowd-pleaser. The Dark Peak Wind Quartet, Intermediate Wind Band and Dark Peak Concert Band continued the high standard with music from Les Misérables, How to Train Your Dragon and Jurassic Park; all played with energy, heart and exceptional talent.

The standard this afternoon was phenomenal. We also said goodbye and good luck to those moving on to exciting new chapters, many of whom have been with the Dark Peak family almost a decade. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Dark Peak Music Family and to everyone who supports this brilliant organisation in any way, shape or form. Your hard work, passion and dedication continue to inspire.

The Dark Peak Music Foundation is a vibrant, creative and inclusive charitable organisation based in the Peak District, serving young musicians (from beginner to advanced level) from Glossopdale, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Hayfield, New Mills and the surrounding areas since its formation in 2000.

The Dark Peak Young Musician of the Year 2025 is (drumroll) ..... SEAN BLANEY.
We had a fantastic afternoon with 17 performances from children and young people from all ages and levels. All the players were superb, with well prepared performances, rhythmically assured and above all really enjoying performing their pieces to an appreciative audience.
In the junior section Albert Shapero was commended for his terrific performance of the Breval Sonata for Cello and in the seniors Ava Walker was commended for her performance of Donjon Offertoire.
But Sean stood out with his virtuosic performance of Karl Böhm's Trumpet Concerto - what a great way for him to finish his time with Dark Peak which started when he was 10 years old playing in the Junior Wind Band.
Well done to all the performers and many thanks to Ben for accompanying!
