A little belated intro… feels like the right time.
Three years of World of Twist and we’ve never properly introduced ourselves. 👋🏼🌍
We didn’t know each other before 2023. It took something heavy, the Turkey/Syria earthquake, to bring us together as DJ pals. Jamo was putting on a fundraiser at Saramago (CCA) and reached out to looking for people playing out SWANA music. At the time, How Bizarre was exploring those sounds through her own RBV show, tied to the rugs she sources and her Scottish-Iranian heritage.
The night of the fundraiser felt different.
A packed room. Music from homelands echoing through the system. People from the diaspora dancing, connecting, feeling something real.
It wasn’t just a party. It meant something.
Somewhere in the middle of it all we thought…
why not keep this going?
World of Twist was already a radio show, Jamo deep in the crates, pulling global grooves, psychedelic rock, soul, disco and left-field sounds. Years of digging across eras and corners of the world. Before that, he was part of Double Sight Psychedelic Weekender, bringing wild sounds into the city, an energy that still runs through his sets now.
Then there’s How Bizarre, part rug dealer, part shoulder shaker, and record collector. Sourcing handwoven pieces across the Silk Road and translating those journeys into sound. Weaving high energy, tribal percussion, acid basslines, Roland drum machines and soulful vocals from the 70s and 80s, alongside a deep love for funk, boogie, Italo, Chicago and Detroit.
At World of Twist, you hear that full circle moment. Digging for original rare groove samples that we all know and love so we can play old vs new. High-energy Bollywood, African Highlife, Brazilian Tropicália, Colombian Cumbia woven into disco-not-disco and the sounds of the club underground. Old sounds, new life.
What started as a one off became something bigger for us. A space where global sounds and cultures meet on the dancefloor.
Where people come to move, connect and get a little lost in it.
Three years in and it still feels like that first night, chaotic, emotional, and rooted in the music.
This is World of Twist.
