Krzyżtopór (Polish pronunciation: [kʂɨʂˈtɔpur]) is a castle located in the village of Ujazd, Iwaniska commune, Opatów County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It was originally constructed by a Polish nobleman and Voivode of Sandomierz, Krzysztof Ossoliński (1587–1645). The castle suffered partial destruction during the Swedish invasion known as The Deluge in 1655 and was later reduced to ruins during the War of the Bar Confederation by Russian forces in 1770.
Constructed within stone walls featuring bastions at each of the five corners, this Mannerist palace was designed to reflect the structure of the calendar. It included four towers representing the four seasons, as well as twelve large halls, each dedicated to a specific month. In total, the building comprised 52 rooms, corresponding to the weeks of the year, and 356 windows.
I used visit this castle when it was free to walk around at anytime of the day. It was magical then, it's impressive today.
