Thereโ€™s something special about a weekend, where food is made for picnics and to be shared ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฅง

This week Iโ€™ll be baking a few seasonal garden pies for Liberation Day (Saturday) โ€” a dish I deeply enjoy and love to serve with a fresh green salad.

Roasted beetroot, butternut squash, spinach, red onion, blue cheese & pistachioโ€ฆ all wrapped in a golden lattice pastry โ˜€๏ธ

Made for passing plates and eating outdoors (hopefully in the sunshine ๐Ÿคž)

The kind of dish that becomes a talking point, long after the day is gone ๐Ÿ’›

For this Saturday, Iโ€™m putting together a small number of seasonal vegetable pies, made for sharing, picnics, and slow gatherings.

Itโ€™s one of my favourite bakesโ€”something I love to serve with a fresh green salad.

Each pie is filled with roasted beetroot, butternut squash & red onion, spinach & blue cheese, finished with a light pistachio crumble, a little pesto, and a golden lattice pastry top. (Itโ€™s like heaven!)

Sourdough is a feeling.

I strongly believe that no machine can tell me better than my own hands when the dough is properly mixed and ready for its first rest. It works especially beautifully with sourdough bread. ๐Ÿž

This time, I was making some fresh rosemary and thyme sourdough loaves โ€” herbs were straight from the garden โ€” with lemon zest and juice. I can smell the beautiful aroma in the kitchen now while they are baking. It smells divine!

I canโ€™t wait to try it with some Guernsey butter! ๐Ÿงˆ ๐ŸŒฟ

From today, weโ€™re supplying โ€™ Guernsey Port Shop with a selection of sweet and savoury bakes.

If youโ€™re heading on a ferry, you might find a cinnamon or Nutella rollโ€ฆ or something savoury, like a sausage roll, to take with you.

Just something small to make the wait a little warmer and sweeter.

Monday blues? Not in my kitchen today.
These sweet, much-loved Hungarian cocoa rolls are total showstoppers โ€” even on a Monday.

I really enjoyed making them because they brought back so many good memories.

In Hungary, we call this swirl a csiga, which literally means snail.
So technicallyโ€ฆ these are cocoa snails. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿซ

But somehow I feel โ€œCocoa Snailsโ€ might not tempt everyone quite as muchโ€ฆ
Or would it? ๐Ÿ˜„

These little Sweet-Heart Cinnamon Buns came to life by accident โ€” and I love them even more for it.
My original plan was to turn this brioche-style dough into pretzels, but it turned out a little too soft for a soda bathโ€ฆ and absolutely perfect for shaping into heart-shaped rolls instead.

๐…๐ฎ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐š๐œ๐ญ: the word โ€œsweetheartโ€ has been used as a term of affection since at least the 13th century, originally meaning โ€œbelovedโ€ or โ€œdear heart.โ€ Over time, it became one of the most familiar ways to describe someone you love โ€” gentle, warm, and full of feeling.

And then came todayโ€™s delivery to Venture Petrol & Pet Food, where I received the best compliment I could ask for:
โ€œCinnamon rolls are bloody marvellous!โ€
I donโ€™t think I need to know anything more than that. ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿฅฐ
