On October 12th at 8PM, for 24-hours, the Slay The Spirits Collective will be taking on a non-stop live-streamed Paranormal Investigation in 20 locations across Dumfries & Galloway as our Halloween Charity Fundraiser to support The Usual Place - a local organisation supporting young people with Additional Support Needs.

Slay The Spirits: Sidequest Ep1 (Part 1) 👻

This week on STS: Sidequest, we’re taking you to Drumcoltran Tower near Kirkgunzeon, Dumfries & Galloway. An intact tower house of a local 16th century lord, Drumcoltran Tower was home to a minor branch of the Maxwells of Caerlaverock.

Drumcoltran Tower’s austere appearance is reflected by a suitably Jacobean platitude inscribed in a stone panel above its front entrance. Translated, it reads: ‘Keep hidden what is secret, speak little, be truthful, avoid wine, remember death, be merciful’.

Join Devine Tension & Kirsty (Whispering Walls) for a bitesized haunted adventure around this gorgeous structure, in broad daylight!

Sorbie Tower is a late 16th-century fortified tower house located in the historic county of Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It serves as the historic seat of Clan Hannay, who owned the lands for centuries. Today, the castle is managed by the Clan Hannay Society which is actively working on its structural preservation and restoration.

Sorbie Tower was built in the 16th century for Alexander Hannay of Sorbie, adjacent to a 12th century motte, on a raised site protected by surrounding marshland. In the 17th century the Stewarts of Garlies took possession of the castle, and the last occupant was Brigadier-General John Stewart who died in 1748. The castle became ruinous and was donated to the Clan Hannay Society by Mrs Jean Cummins in 1965. Over the next 35 years the clan spent about £40,000 conserving the ruin, but it became dangerous and required scaffolding. In 1972 the building was listed Grade A by Historic Environment Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Devine Tension, Kirsty & Miss Camille Toe of the STS Collective stumbled upon Sorbie Tower during one of our adventures. We were lucky enough to get a guided tour by a lovely clan member named Dave, who told us all about the tower and plans for restoration.
