๐ฌ๐ Duchess Disgrace (Sticky Floors / Sticky Fingers) ๐๐ป
The Song That Started DJ Dovah
๐ฌ The first ever DJ Dovah song now has a music video.
Released as a single before Dover Nights last year, this song was never really meant to be released.
๐ But the sound felt like it belonged on the dancefloor at The Duchess on a packed Saturday night so much that I thought other people had to hear it, despite the lyrics, and it became the starting point of DJ Dovah.
๐ซ A friend at the time said, "Don't release it, you'll get barred." That comment ended up giving me the idea for Banned from The Duchess, and somehow being barred became a recurring theme throughout DJ Dovah.
๐ค I also have a theory about why the music came out the way it did.
Most AI has guardrails, but when you push it towards an idea it's trying to avoid, it doesn't simply refuse.
Instead, it often finds strange and unexpected ways of expressing that idea.
I think that's where a lot of this track's energy came from.
๐ฅ The music video isn't perfect, but I'm really pleased I finally got to make this one.
๐บ One thing you won't see in the video is a barmaid. If you've always thought you could hear a barmaid saying "Duchess", I've always thought this too. AI seems to think they also say "backdrop" after listening to it, but I've always been convinced they sound more like "bad block".
๐ง You might like a DJ Dovah track and not even like this one.
But without this song, there would be no DJ Dovah.
โญ This is where it all began.
๐ฌ And even after everything that's come since, this track still feels like an important part of the project.
๐ธ Enjoy this one as much as you can, because DJ Dovah's music video budget has just about been depleted.
