Well done Nora....we think you'll agree Nora has done an amazing job nurturing her little basil plants!
Nora passed on her basil plants to Sarah this morning. From a tiny seed to full grown plants, Nora's been tending to them for the last 6 weeks. Sarah will now be using the basil in todays lunch at Spa Academy Askern, Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, Moss Rd and if there's any left she'll no doubt be making good use of it in pesto or focaccia bread.
From a tiny seed that cost penny's to a fully grown plant. All that was needed was a little time and patience.

It was curry day today @ Campsmount Academy and butter chicken was one of todays dishes. Alongside that we made our second batch of garlic naan bread, this time adding nigella seeds to the dough. Something you might not know is that nigella seeds belong to the buttercup family of flowering plants. And today we displayed a few of the ingredients used in todays for students to see. A huge thanks to Nick in technology for knocking this little display up, really does look great!

Sarah's exciting 8-week journey begins tomorrow with the Chefs in Schools training program. This experience is designed to equip her with a better understanding of her role, and broaden her skills and knowledge about food and nutrition. Sarah will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned chefs and collaborators, along with meeting other school catering team members.

One of Nikki's favourite lunches and here she is slicing the Pineapple Glazed Ham for todays. We steam the ham then peel off the skin and then score the fat. We then take a tin of pineapple, drain off some of the juice and blitz that with some honey and brown sugar. We finish that off with a little wholegrain mustard, fresh thyme and a little mixed spice or whatever takes your fancy. Finally the ham is roasted and we keep spooning more of the pineapple glaze over the ham until it thickens and caramelises.
