Chris was great. We hired him for my son’s 13th birthday. He was excellent in keeping in touch and confirming everything before the date. He came to our house on time to set up, well before the guests. He set up both a roulette table and a black jack table. He started with roulette and was patient with rather excited boys and superb at explaining to them how the game worked. He kept them interested throughout. After a serving of pizza they moved on to blackjack, again explaining the game to those that didn’t know. He found a way to keep them all entertained and part of the game. This week's spotlight: Blackjack Strategy – When Should You Hit, Stand or Double Down?

One of the questions we often hear around our Blackjack tables is:

"How do I know whether to take another card or stick with what I've got?"

Blackjack is one of the world's most popular casino games, and although luck plays a part, knowing a few simple rules can make it even more enjoyable.

Understanding the Basics

The aim of Blackjack is simple: get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over.

But knowing when to Hit, Stand, Split or Double Down can make all the difference.

Hit: Ask the dealer for another card.

Stand: Keep the cards you already have.

Split: Create two hands from a pair of cards

Double Down: Double your original bet and receive just one more card, where the table rules allow it.

Three Useful Blackjack Tips

Always look at the dealers card.

Stand on a hard 17 or higher. Taking another card is usually too risky.

Consider doubling down on 11. It's often a strong opportunity, although the correct decision depends on the dealer's card and the table rules.

Remember, Blackjack strategy changes depending on what the dealer is showing, so these are starting points rather than guarantees.

Chris's Top Tip

One of the things I enjoy about dealing Blackjack is watching guests grow in confidence.

At the beginning of the evening, they're often asking whether they should take another card. By the end, they're confidently making their own decisions!

My advice? Don't worry about memorising every rule. Learn the basics, enjoy the game and remember that our croupiers are always happy to help.
