Mental health and Wellness
Mental health is one’s psychological,social and emotional wellbeing affecting how one will feel,act and think,while mental wellness is positive state of purpose, resilence, happiness, good relationships and flourishing. Mental health is also about how to cope well with stress (and realising one’s potential) while another definition of Wellness is about how to thrive in life (feeling good,self-appreciation, having meaningful life, developing good relationship around you).
Some ways to boost your Mental health and Wellness:
■ Connect with people: Spend quality time with friends, colleagues, family and local groups like churches, mosques and clubs.
■ Be active: Exercise regularly; go for a walk and enjoy nature, go jogging, dancing classes, gym or do some 10 to 30 minutes light exercises in the comfort of your flat, house or workplace. You can get some exercises from Youtube.com. Also, you can develop your own hobbies.
■ Mindfulness: Try regular mindfulness, prayers and meditation.
■ Challenge yourself: Take on new challenges like reading a book a month, listen to podcasts regularly, go for a new training or do a new course.
■Journaling: Journaling helps one to be more organised and not put pressure on the brain to remember too many things.
■Decent sleep: Most of us find it difficult to have a regular good sleep however; having 6 to 8 hours a day is highly recommended; this will help reset and re-fresh the brain and help the brain to function very well.
Bonus points:
■ Me-time: Me-time (my time); Create and spend time with yourself alone, no partner, spouse, children or friends; create 30 to 60 minutes a week just for yourself; spend the time doing whatever you enjoy doing like reading,sleeping,watching movies or enjoying nature.
■Acts of kindness: Be kind to people and your community be a volunteer, give your services for free to your community or help people for free.
■ Seek support: If you need support with mental health issues or crisis, please seek help.
