Hello Everyone,

And, for the last time this season, here we all are then.

Tonights guest is the legendary Vikki Clayton, former front girl for Fairport and a consummate artist in her own right.

In the early 80’S, the fun began. Invited to sing with Ragged Heroes, a cult folk-rock band. Vikki thrived. “I’ve found my forte. I’d always kicked around with rock bands and played in folk clubs, but here was a chance to combine my two favourite musical loves.” “Ragged Heroes Annual” was released to much acclaim, and notice was taken of Vikki’s lovely voice. They were invited to perform at one of the early Cropredy Festivals in 1984, and gigs started to escalate. However, the band drifted apart and eventually called it a day because ” we were eight in number and our bar tab usually came to more than our fee”

Then somebody sent Fairport Convention a copy of Vikki’s album “Lost Lady Found”. At the same time, Jerry Donahue heard Vikki sing and was moved to tears because she sounded so much like Sandy Denny. What became of these two events was a long period of appearing with Fairport Convention, fronting the newly formed Fotheringhay, amusingly known as “The Nerve”, and forming her own band featuring stellar performers Clive Bunker, Fred T. Baker and Chris Conway.

So six solo albums later and many appearances on other recordings, Vikki is proud to release “Messenger”.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Ruskin Folk Day on Saturday which turned out to be a real antidote to the football. The sun was out the birds singing and bands played virtually non stop from noon till 10. The funds go a long way to keeping our venue open and, of course, we contribute in no small manner as well, while we can stay afloat keeping it live.

The autumn programme has been posted on the website at croydonfolkclub.org.uk with tickets available, as usual
at wegottickets.com.

Thanks you for your continued support this year and see you tonight for one last sojourn into the world of live folk music, then we can take a breath and enjoy summer festivals. We'll be at Whitby as usual, see you there.

Brian Jenny and all the Croydon Team.

Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all hale and hearty and fully recovered from the weekend of sport.

At Castle Selcroft the effects have been profound and we are proposing to make sitting around watching Brits on the telly as an Olympic Sport. We are, after all world renowned at winning when sitting down, rowing cycling etc, so this would be an extension of the countries prospects.

So we hope you are all sober enough to join us this evening for a celebration open mike sing song, which will be our last this season. Next week we have our last guest with Vicki Clayton, late of Fairport Convention.
