"Wonderful Stay – Can’t Wait to Return...
We stayed at Stirk House for two nights, firstly to attend a friend’s wedding and then to celebrate our own wedding anniversary. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience.
The hotel itself is beautiful, with every part of it so well maintained. Our room was lovely and the bed incredibly comfortable (we heard the same from others staying for the wedding too).
What really stood out most though was the staff. Every single person we met was warm, friendly, and genuinely sincere - some of the best service we’ve ever experienced anywhere. It made our stay feel really special.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Stirk House to anyone, and we’re already looking forward to coming back ourselves."

"We had our wedding at Stirk House, Gisburn, on 16th August 2025, and it was nothing short of perfect.
From the moment we first visited, we knew it was the right place – the venue itself is breathtaking, surrounded by stunning countryside and beautifully kept grounds that made an incredible backdrop for our photos.
The team at Stirk House went above and beyond from start to finish. In the lead-up, nothing was too much trouble – they were patient, organised, and reassuring, which made the planning process feel so much easier.
On the day itself, everything ran seamlessly. The staff were attentive, professional, and genuinely caring, making sure we and our guests felt looked after at every moment. Shout out to Dave the toastmaster who made everyone feel relaxed and welcome.
The food was another highlight – absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and tailored perfectly to our tastes. So many of our guests commented on how impressed they were with both the meal and the service.
What really stood out to us, though, was the atmosphere. Stirk House manages to combine elegance and charm with a warm, welcoming feel. It felt personal, intimate, and truly special – exactly what we had hoped for our wedding day.
We couldn’t recommend Stirk House enough to any couple looking for their dream wedding venue. It gave us memories we will cherish forever, and we’ll always be grateful to the team for making our day so magical."

A little about our history...
1635 - Stirk House was built using stonework from the former Sawley Abbey, dismantled a century earlier during Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries.
1800 - The house, known as Grange Moor Manor at the time, is bought by London financier Alec Omerod, as a country base for social gatherings and wild parties in the country.
1933 - After being empty for 25 years, the property was sold to Harry Speak for £500, who began work converting it into a hotel boasting 11 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
1945 - A devastating fire destroyed most of the main wing but local villagers pull together to tackle the blaze and save the building.
1950 - With a £100,000 refurbishment, Stirk House gained a reputation as an exclusive spot, with waiters sporting tails and white gloves and the hotel becoming a popular venue for wedding receptions.
1995 - Stirk House became registered to perform wedding ceremonies and the first couple, locals Carole Lord and Tony Flanagan, are married at the venue.
2019 - Following the busiest year in its history, Stirk House is voted Best Wedding Venue: Hotel in the Great Northern Wedding Awards.
Today, Stirk House stands in the heart of Lancashire’s picturesque Ribble Valley and has become a place of great fondness for many people. Local visitors and those who have travelled from different corners of the world are welcomed still with great warmth and impeccable service when they arrive this stunning 17th Century Manor House. A recent refurbishment has meant that the beautiful building our guests over the years have come to know and love is well looked after and has been given a new lease of life.
