It’s not every day you get asked to plan, coordinate, decorate and officiate your sister’s wedding—but here I am, doing it all with a smile (my laptop and mobile phone on my desk and a cuppa or a glass of red wine in hand). They’ve chosen the most gorgeous countryside venue in South Africa—our beloved homeland—for their destination wedding. With both of us now living in the UK and her fiancé being British, it’s incredibly special to be celebrating this milestone surrounded by the beauty and warmth of home. I know it’s a big job, but I honestly couldn’t be happier to be part of every moment.
Now, I won’t lie—my sister will likely test my patience at least once a day! She’s got her own vision, her own style, and quite possibly a long Pinterest board of ideas that she must see brought to life. But that’s part of the fun, right? From sourcing local suppliers and making sure flight arrives on time, to hanging fairy lights and finding the perfect ceremony backdrop, I’ll be juggling roles like a pro. And when I finally stand in front of the couple to lead their vows, I know I’ll have that emotional lump in my throat—but I’ll keep it together… hopefully.
What I expect? A bit of chaos, a few deep breaths, and a whole lot of laughter. There will be moments where I’ll want to hide behind the nearest protea bush, but far more moments where I’ll be filled with pride and joy. It’s going to be a wedding to remember—not just because of the setting or the dress or the speeches, but because it’s my sister, my family, and my heart. And when all’s said and done, we’ll have stories to tell for years… probably over a glass of wine and a giggle about how I became a one-woman wedding machine!
