A few of my favourite flowers and foliage for autumn 🍂

One of the things I love most about being a wedding florist is that it gives me a reason to go places I might never otherwise have thought to visit.

I’m always happy to travel for a wedding — partly because I love the opportunity to work with different couples, different venues and different creative teams, but also because there’s something rather lovely about being given a reason to explore somewhere completely new.

This weekend, that was Northumberland.

A beautiful autumn wedding, but also a weekend of wandering through little villages, discovering new places, soaking up that glorious October sunshine, eating good food and generally making the most of being somewhere different.

And I think that’s something I really, REALLY value about this job.

Life is short, and there are so many beautiful places and people and experiences out there. If a wedding takes me somewhere I’ve never been before, why wouldn’t I make the most of it?

Sometimes work takes you somewhere new. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, it gives you the excuse to stop, look around and enjoy it too.

Technically, none of these things are my job.

But when I’m at your wedding, I’m not going to stand there thinking “sorry, that’s not in the floristry brief.” 😂

Over the years I’ve pinned buttonholes onto very nervous grooms, helped fix dresses, moved furniture, calmed pre-ceremony wobbles, found missing bits, ferried things from A to B and generally got stuck in wherever an extra pair of hands was needed.

Because your wedding day isn’t a series of separate jobs. It’s one big, slightly chaotic, very important day — and if I can make it run a little more smoothly while I’m there, I will.

So yes, I’m there for the flowers.

But I’m also very much on your team 💕

When Jess first came to me, she already had a really clear feeling for how she wanted her wedding to look.

Not necessarily a list of exact flowers or a Pinterest-perfect blueprint — more an overall aesthetic, a feeling, a vision of how she wanted it all to come together.

And then, YEARS later, we finally got to stand inside that vision at Townhead Estate and make it real for her and Luke.

There’s something really special about this part of the job. You spend all that time talking things through, changing bits, making decisions, second-guessing things, making them again… and then suddenly you’re standing there looking at the finished ceremony thinking, oh. THIS is what we were talking about.

And I think that’s one of my favourite things about wedding flowers.

It isn’t just about making something pretty on the day. It’s taking the things you’ve been imagining in your head for months and turning them into something you can actually walk towards, stand amongst and remember forever.
