✨ B E E S ! ✨

Yes, you heard that distinctive rumbling buzz and correctly worked out that it's a bee hive... not Chris snoring after a long day of mowing 🤭

When I spotted a local beekeeper looking for a new home for some beautiful Welsh Black bees, I couldn't say yes fast enough 🐝

Not only will they be right at home among the flowers, but it's also a small part of helping conserve Britain's only native honey bee subspecies. Building healthy colonies is an important way of keeping these wonderful bees thriving 🌼

I'm so excited to welcome them to Bwthyn Blooms and watch them get to work over the coming months. We don't use pesticides or harsh chemicals here, which is really important when you're trying to create a safe haven for bees, butterflies and all the other incredible insects that keep our little patch of Wales buzzing 🌱💛

💛 Welcome to your new home, little bees.

🌿 Blodau ffres ar y stondin yr penwythnos yma.

The weather has certainly been keeping me on my toes lately! After a spell of scorching sunshine followed by heavy rain and gusty winds, some of the flowers are looking a little windswept and in need of extra staking and support.

Thankfully, the sweet peas seem to have decided they absolutely love the chaos 🌸

I've stocked the honesty stand with fresh bunches of sweet peas (£5 each), bursting with scent and ready to brighten a kitchen table, bedside, or sunny windowsill.

There's also a mixed seasonal bouquet waiting for its new home, packed with flowers grown right here in the Heart of Wales. Full of highly scented stocks!

And while some blooms head to the honesty stand, others are making their way to local florists — a bucket full of this week's harvest is featured in the final photo. There's something rather special about seeing Welsh-grown flowers enjoyed both near and far!

Confession time: I've spent the last week wandering around Bruges admiring flower-filled window boxes while simultaneously wondering how the flowers back home were coping with the heat 🌷😅

If you've noticed things have been a little quiet on here, that's because I've been away on a family holiday. And if you've been looking for flowers at the honesty stand, that's why it's been taking a little break too.

With temperatures soaring this week, it didn't seem fair to leave fresh flowers sitting out in the heat while I was several hundred miles away eating waffles and pretending not to check the weather forecast for Powys every few hours ☀️🧇

The good news is that the flowers have survived, the w**ds have undoubtedly thrived, and I'll be back in the field soon to see what surprises are waiting for me.

Although the honesty stand will remain closed for a few more days, florists will still be able to find Bwthyn Blooms flowers at the newly opened Wye Growers Collective hub this week 🌸

I'll also be restocking the honesty stand with fresh bouquets on Saturday 6th June, ready for a flower-filled weekend.

Thank you for bearing with me while I took a little time to recharge and spend time with family. Sometimes even flower farmers need a holiday (although apparently not a holiday from thinking about flowers!)

See you amongst the blooms soon 🌿

First teeny tiny pansy harvest 💛💜

The very first cut of the season… and honestly? They’re more “buttonhole bouquet” than armful right now 🌼

These are my first pansy stems from the field and at this stage they’re naturally quite short. I’ve been cutting them anyway to encourage the plants to put their energy into growing longer, stronger stems for the next flush of flowers (flower farming is sometimes a lesson in patience… sometimes a lesson in sprinting after nature 😅)

The warm weather has the pansies absolutely racing ahead, so the challenge now is keeping up before they all decide to bloom at once.

Still, there’s something very lovely about these tiny first harvests, a little sign that the season is properly beginning here at Bwthyn Blooms.

Blodau bach cyntaf y tymor… a’r dechrau go iawn o’r haf yn y cae blodau 🌸

Today is 💜World Thyroid Day 💜

It's the start of International Thyroid Awareness Week, something that feels quite personal here at Bwthyn Blooms 🌿

Running a flower farm alongside a 4-day office job with an underactive thyroid has taught me that rest isn’t always optional; sometimes it’s as important as watering the seedlings. Some days that means answering emails, rushing outside to w**d a bed before dark and then fitting in a very glamorous 10-minute sofa nap somewhere in between to recharge the batteries.

Growing flowers has actually helped remind me to work *with* the seasons, not against them, and maybe we should offer ourselves the same kindness too.

So today feels like a good reminder that not every illness is visible, and that slowing down sometimes is just part of looking after ourselves properly.

To everyone quietly managing thyroid conditions while juggling work, family, businesses, or everyday life... I see you 💜

Now if you’ll excuse me, there are seedlings to water and approximately 47 w**ds plotting against me in the flower field…

Dydd Gŵyl Thyroid y Byd Hapus i bawb sy’n delio gyda’r pethau tawel nad oes neb arall yn eu gweld 🌱

I've taken the decision to close the honesty stall this weekend due to the sun and hot weather. As our stand faces south, it's quite difficult to keep the flowers in their best condition in this weather and I want to make sure that everything I sell is the best quality for you.

However! I do have some flowers cut fresh last night, so if you're in the mood for some flowery freshness, pop me a message today and I can make something up for you to collect.

This is also my sign to put my out of office up! We are away from Monday to Friday, so no wholesale this week.

The honesty stand will be back open on Saturday 30th May 💐

Still slightly pinching myself writing this… 🌸✨

I’m so excited to finally share that Bwthyn Blooms will be part of the Flowers from the Farm Wales micro show garden at this year’s Royal Welsh Show!

This little garden is a real collaboration between growers across Wales — celebrating locally-grown, seasonal flowers and showing just how much beauty can be grown right here on our doorstep.

It feels especially exciting to be announcing this during such a huge week for British flowers. Today, Flowers from the Farm won a Silver Gilt medal at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 🌿🏅

And earlier this week, British flower growers were officially recognised with our own SIC code by the government, which is a massive step forward for flower farming being recognised as a genuine part of British agriculture.

From Chelsea to Builth Wells, there’s a real movement growing behind British flowers, sustainability, and supporting local growers… and honestly, I’m so proud that little old Bwthyn Blooms gets to be part of it. ❤️

Wild treasures from the Heart of Wales.
Rooted in the land. Grown with care.

Llongyfarchiadau mawr i bawb sydd wedi gweithio mor galed dros flodau Prydeinig 🌸

(Translation: Huge congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard for British flowers and I’m so excited to bring a little piece of that to the Royal Welsh Show this year.)
